Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past – A Nostalgic Return with Original Voice Cast

In celebration of the 35th anniversary of the beloved 1990s anime Samurai Pizza Cats, a new video game titled Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past is in early development. This exciting announcement comes with a special trailer featuring the original voice cast, bringing a wave of nostalgia to fans worldwide.

The anime, originally known as Kyatto Ninden Teyandee, first aired in Japan on February 1, 1990. Set in the futuristic city of Edoropolis, the show features anthropomorphic robotic animals and gained international fame in the early 1990s as Samurai Pizza Cats. Its unique blend of sci-fi, action, and comedy has maintained a dedicated fanbase over the years.

Developed by Dutch studio BLAST ZERO, known for their work on Jitsu Squad, and distributed globally by Red Dunes Games from the UAE, Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past is a 2D Action RPG. Players can switch between the Pizza Cats, using their unique abilities to solve puzzles and engage in battles within Little Tokyo. The trailer showcases a faithful recreation of the anime’s cel animation style, giving fans a glimpse of the in-game experience.

The Japanese trailer’s script is supervised by Satoru Akahori, the original screenplay writer, ensuring authenticity. The voice cast reunion includes both the English and Japanese actors, with Rick Jones (Speedy Cerviche), Sonja Ball (Polly Esther), Terrence Scammell (Guido Anchovy, Narrator), and Dean Hagopian (Seymour “The Big Cheese”) returning for the English version. The Japanese cast features Kappei Yamaguchi (Yattarou), Ai Orikasa (Pururun), Ikuya Sawaki (Kitsunezuka Ko’on-no-Kami), Naoki Tatsuta (Karasu Gennarisai), and Kenyu Horiuchi (Narrator), with Seiichirō Yamashita joining as Sukashii.

Kappei Yamaguchi, the voice of Yattarou, expressed his excitement: “Yattarou, alongside Ranma, is one of my foundational roles as a voice actor. When I first heard about the game, I was absolutely thrilled, and now that it has become a reality, I couldn’t be happier. It felt amazing to say ‘Tenkamuteki no Daishōri!!’ (‘Unrivaled, ultimate victory!!’) again. I love Yattarou so much!”

Ai Orikasa, who voices Pururun, shared her thoughts on the project: “I was deeply moved by the quality of the visuals. The passion of the game development team for this series was so evident, and it made me incredibly happy. Seeing Ko-on-no-Kami and Gennarisai’s interactions was exciting, and I was delighted to say Pururun’s signature catchphrase once again.”

Seiichirō Yamashita, the new voice of Sukashii, reflected on his experience: “To be honest, I wasn’t familiar with Kyatto Ninden Teyandee before this project. It’s incredible to be involved with a series that predates my birth. The recording session was truly special—I had the privilege of performing alongside legends like Kappei Yamaguchi, watching them work up close in such a dynamic setting.”

As the series celebrates its 35th anniversary, the love for Kyatto Ninden Teyandee continues to thrive both in Japan and overseas. Fans can look forward to this new game, which promises to capture the essence of the original anime while introducing new adventures for the Samurai Pizza Cats.
