SpecNext has announced that an enhanced version of this iconic action-adventure game, titled “Head Over Heels: Deluxe,” will be released on PC on March 6, 2025, with a Nintendo Switch version following later in the year.
Originally launched in 1987 on platforms like the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, and Amstrad CPC, “Head Over Heels” quickly became a standout title of its era. The game was revitalized in 2024 with an enhanced remake for the ZX Spectrum Next, earning high praise from critics, including a 94% rating from Crash and 90% from Retro Gamer. Now, SpecNext is bringing this enhanced version to modern platforms, allowing a new generation of players to experience the magic.
Players will once again join the quirky duo of Headus Mouthion (Head) and Footus Underium (Heels), who have been separated and imprisoned by a tyrannical emperor. Each character boasts unique abilities: Head excels in jumping and headshots, while Heels is known for his speed, carrying capacity, and distinctive waddle. Together, they must navigate through fantastical worlds filled with bizarre enemies, clever puzzles, and hidden passages.
This remake stays true to the original while adding fresh elements. Players can enjoy beautifully updated isometric levels, precise re-engineered controls, and a new soundtrack that captures the whimsical and sometimes devious nature of the game.
