MANILA, Philippines–BOOM Esports Clash laner, Miguel “Miggie” Banaag, opened up about the team’s current participation in the 2024 China-ASEAN Esports Competition, as well as the upcoming Honor of Kings Championship happening next month.
The team will be playing under the banner of Sibol, the Philippine’s national esports team.
With Honor of Kings being released globally last June, it’s a feat that BOOM Esports was able to go toe-to-toe with teams like China, Brazil and Malaysia during the Mid-Season Invitational at the Esports World Cup. Though the team placed 9th-10th, BOOM Esports’ has been one of the team’s to watch.
The upcoming offline tournament in China is a huge step for the team’s continued growth, especially playing in the land the game originated.
“I really want to compete against them because even if we don’t win, which I hope doesn’t happen, it would be a huge experience for us. They have a different level of expertise in this field, especially in Honor of Kings. The additional experience and knowledge about the game are the most valuable things we can learn from them.” said Banaag as translated to English.
With the upcoming world championship in Jakarta, the tournament is also a means of helping the team prepare for more offline tournaments as they are used to online ones.
he adds, “It is a huge help for us to gain more experience on the offline stage because, unlike other regions where their qualifiers are offline and on a big stage, in the Philippines, it’s not yet like that. So, this is our stepping stone to become stronger and improve in offline matches.”
Besides Honor of Kings, the 2024 China-ASEAN Esports Competition will also feature Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. The entirety of the competition will take place over the weekend.
