The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Singapore (MPL Singapore) is gearing up to redefine the local esports landscape with its most ambitious season yet. Season 9 promises to be a game-changer, introducing groundbreaking initiatives such as a nationwide roving league, weekly community team participation, and a talent and ambassador search program, all aimed at bringing the league closer to the grassroots.
A Community-Driven Season
Season 9 is set to be the most community-focused edition of MPL Singapore, offering unprecedented opportunities for players, fans, and aspiring talents to get involved. These changes are designed to strengthen Singapore’s esports ecosystem by placing the community at its core. Jointly organized by MOONTON Games and Pulse Nova Entertainment, MPL Singapore stands as the nation’s premier professional esports league.
Bringing Esports to the Heartlands
For the first time, MPL Singapore Season 9 will adopt a roving format for the Regular Season, bringing the excitement of MLBB esports to various locations across the nation. From 10 to 25 May, fans can catch the action at venues like Bukit Panjang Plaza, Westgate, and Lot One. This expansion beyond a single venue aims to create more touchpoints for the community to engage with the competition and support local talent.
Integrating Grassroots Talent
The revamped Regular Season will feature professional and community teams competing side-by-side. It will introduce four stages: the Seeded Stage, the Challenger Qualifiers, the Challenger Stage, and the Last Chance Qualifiers. These stages provide emerging esports talents with a platform to shine alongside professionals, further strengthening the local talent pool.
- Seeded Stage (Saturdays): Top five invited MPL Singapore teams compete.
- Challenger Qualifiers: Up to 64 community teams vie for a spot in the Challenger Stage.
- Challenger Stage (Sundays): Top four community teams compete against invited MPL Singapore teams.
- Last Chance Qualifiers: New and eliminated community teams battle for the final Playoffs spot.
At the end of the Regular Season, the top four invited MPL Singapore teams will secure direct Playoffs spots. The fifth-placed MPL team will compete against the highest-ranked Challenger Stage community team for a Playoffs spot. This format underscores the league’s commitment to empowering community teams and integrating them into the local esports scene.
Nationwide Talent Search
MPL Singapore is launching its most extensive talent search program to date, aimed at uncovering the next generation of esports talent. The MPL Singapore Talent Search will provide pathways for aspiring esports athletes and offer hands-on experience in roles such as hosting, casting, content creation, and event production. Additionally, the MPL SG Ambassador Programme will collaborate with emerging KOLs to grow the local esports scene. These programs are dedicated to nurturing talent from the ground up, equipping participants with essential skills, mentorship, and industry exposure.
Strategic Vision
Daniel Chew, Head of Esports for Singapore and Cambodia at MOONTON Games, emphasized the league’s focus on community empowerment: “The changes for MPL Singapore highlight our focus on empowering the community and building a sustainable foundation for Singapore’s esports scene. By reallocating resources and investing in grassroots initiatives, we aim to engage Singaporeans in esports in new and meaningful ways.”
Jayf Soh, Chief Executive Officer at Pulse Nova Entertainment, added: “With MPL Singapore Season 9, we’re taking a bold step towards transforming how the local community engages with the league. The introduction of these new initiatives goes beyond competition—it’s about fostering a deeper connection between the league and Singaporeans.”
Rallying Behind Singapore’s Representatives
MPL Singapore serves as a pathway for local esports teams to shine globally. This season’s champions will represent Singapore at the Esports World Cup (EWC) x MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) 2025, showcasing the nation’s talent on the world stage. Last year, Team Flash achieved a top-four finish at EWC x MSC 2024, matching Singapore’s best-ever performance at an international MLBB tournament. MPL Singapore calls on the community to rally behind this season’s representatives as they take on the world.
Partnerships and Support
Season 9 sees Head & Shoulders continue its support for local esports as an Esports Partner, unveiling new limited-edition shampoo packaging featuring MLBB characters Zilong and Layla. CapitaLand joins as the Official Venue Partner, powering the league’s first-ever roving Regular Season and making esports more accessible across the nation.
As Singapore’s only professional esports league, MPL Singapore has played a pivotal role in shaping the local esports and gaming scene. The community-focused direction of Season 9 aims to drive innovation and uplift local talent, ensuring the league evolves alongside community needs and represents Singapore’s gaming culture.
