The Marvel Multiverse is expanding once again. Marvel Rivals, the fast-growing, team-based PvP shooter from Marvel Games and NetEase Games, is back with a mid-season update packed with fresh content and bold innovations. Season 2.5: Hellfire Gala officially launches May 30, 2025, bringing fan-favorite villain Ultron into the fray, introducing a new Arakko map, and setting the stage for new team-ups, cosmetics, and limited-time gameplay.
If you thought the stakes were high in Season 2, they’re about to get X-Treme.
Ultron Joins Marvel Rivals as a Playable Hero
One of Marvel’s most iconic and intelligent antagonists, Ultron is now a playable Strategist-class character. Designed to be a high-level tactician, Ultron uses his intellect and an army of automated drones to dominate the battlefield. His playstyle is all about adaptation, control, and long-term strategy, making him a must-try for players who love to outthink their opponents.
New Map: Battle Across Arakko, Now Under Ultron’s Rule
The post-Hellfire Gala chaos continues with the introduction of Arakko, once a thriving sister island of Krakoa. Now corrupted and mechanical under Ultron’s control, Arakko offers a visually striking and strategic battleground that expands Marvel Rivals’ multiverse narrative. Expect environmental storytelling, dynamic verticality, and plenty of high-intensity fights as you battle to reclaim the island from Ultron’s grip.
Team-Up Abilities Revamped: Over 50% Updated Since Launch
Marvel Rivals continues to refine its Team-Up Ability system, with six new abilities, four removed, and adjustments to existing pairings in this update. That means more synergies, more tactics, and more surprises in every match.

These updates reflect over 50% evolution in the system compared to Season 0—giving veterans and new players plenty of reasons to experiment with their team compositions.
New Customization Features: Emojis, Mood, and Hero Proficiency Avatars
Season 2.5 introduces personalization systems to help players express themselves even more in battle:
- Hero Proficiency Avatars now appear on the match hero select screen, highlighting your mastery.
- Mood and Emoji Systems allow you to inject your style, reactions, and flair mid-match.
This update makes it easier than ever to stand out on the battlefield, both in skill and personality.
Limited-Time Mode Arrives June 6: Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol
The future of Marvel Rivals’ gameplay experimentation begins on June 6 with a bold new limited-time mode:
Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol
This 6-player freeform mode lets you:
- Choose custom hero lineups
- Craft unique builds
- Enhance your favorite hero’s traits
- Face off in battle for ultimate dominance
The mode serves as a sandbox-style experiment, offering fans the freedom to live out power-fantasy scenarios by boosting stats and tweaking abilities. It’s Marvel PvP like you’ve never seen before.
