PUBG MOBILE is pushing beyond the battle royale formula with the reveal of UNFAIL, its first-ever asymmetrical PvP mode. The announcement came today at Gamescom 2025, where players are getting hands-on access to the new mode ahead of its official launch as part of PUBG MOBILE’s upcoming Version 4.0 update.
What is UNFAIL?
UNFAIL introduces a tense, pursuit-and-escape gameplay loop. Each match features five players:
- 1 Predator – A single, powerful opponent with devastating abilities designed to hunt and eliminate.
- 4 Survivors – A team that must cooperate, outmaneuver, and complete objectives to escape.
To win, the Predator must wipe out all Survivors. The Survivors, meanwhile, must activate terminals scattered across the map and open an exit gate before the Predator catches them. This high-stakes, cat-and-mouse format brings an entirely new competitive flavor to PUBG MOBILE.
Version 4.0 Sneak Peeks at Gamescom 2025
The UNFAIL showcase is part of PUBG MOBILE’s “Beyond Battle Royale” experience at Gamescom, signaling a bold step toward diverse gameplay offerings. Attendees at the booth in Hall 6.1 can also preview:
- Spooky Soiree Theme – A ghostly new event featuring supernatural abilities and mechanics.
- World of Wonder activations – On-site creation and play experiences.
- Interactive content creator events – Meet and play with popular PUBG MOBILE personalities.
PUBG MOBILE at Gamescom Congress
In addition to gameplay reveals, Rick Li, Producer of PUBG MOBILE, is speaking at the Playing for the Planet (P4P) Panel during the Gamescom Congress on August 21 at 14:35 CEST. Joining leaders from Ubisoft, Unity Technologies, and Xbox, Li will discuss “Level up for impact: How Consoles, Engines and AAA games are driving efficiency upstream and inspiring action downstream with players.”
This session highlights how major gaming companies are tackling sustainability, with PUBG MOBILE’s parent Tencent Games reaffirming its commitment to a greener future in gaming.
