MPL MY: #TeamMAS SEA Games Athletes Shine as Project NEXT Map Shake-Up Awaits

MPL MY

MPL Malaysia (MPL MY) Season 16 kicked off in electrifying fashion, setting the stage for a historic esports run as #TeamMAS Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) athletes chase gold at the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand.

The opening week not only showcased Malaysia’s medal hopefuls in peak form but also unveiled the official #TeamMAS MLBB Men’s and Women’s rosters during a live event at Sri Putra Hall, Bukit Jalil. The Malaysia Esports Federation (MESF) confirmed its mission: to secure the nation’s first-ever MLBB gold at the biennial multi-sport event.

Gold Medal Dreams: #TeamMAS Athletes Make Their Mark

Selangor Red Giants OG Esports’ (SRG) championship trio—Muhammad “YumS” Qayyum Ariffin, Hazziq “Stormie” Danish, and Muhammad “Sekys” Haqqullah—fired on all cylinders in their 2-1 victory over last season’s Grand Finalists, Homebois (HB). Their international pedigree, including Malaysia’s landmark Mid Season Cup triumph at the 2024 Esports World Cup, makes them the backbone of the national squad.

Monster Vicious (MV) stars Muhammad “Uni” Danish Fitri and Idreen “Momo” Jamal also impressed, dismantling Team Vamos (VMS) 2-0. Notably, Momo brings valuable experience, having earned a silver medal at SEA Games 2023.

Rounding out the Men’s roster is Ealtond “Lolealz” Rayner of Todak (TDK). Despite TDK’s upset loss to Team Rey, Lolealz stood out and remains a key player to watch heading into Week 2, where TDK will face SRG in a blockbuster matchup.

By the end of Week 1, four squads—CG Esports, Monster Vicious, Team Rey, and Untitled—shared the top of the standings with 3 match points each.

Beyond the Arena: Guru Juara MOONTON Masterclass

In parallel with MPL Malaysia, MOONTON Games and Esports Integrated (ESI), under Malaysia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, launched the Guru Juara MOONTON Masterclass on September 11. This pioneering program empowers primary school teachers with digital game-based learning tools for STEM education.

Graduates of the program will earn official certification and the opportunity to nominate student teams for state-level MLBB competitions, including the upcoming Selangor State Under-12 MLBB Tournament in December 2025.

MPL Malaysia Week 2: Project NEXT Brings Four New Maps

As the league heads into Week 2, MPL Malaysia is about to enter uncharted territory with the Project NEXT update, one of MLBB’s most ambitious overhauls to date.

Four new maps—Broken Walls, Dangerous Grass, Flying Cloud, and Expanding Rivers—will debut, with matches randomly assigned to each map during hero draft. This twist forces teams to rethink everything from lane strategies to hero picks, ensuring unpredictability and high-stakes gameplay.

With the season’s rallying cry of “It’s MY Time”, adaptability and composure will be the true test of champions. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see which teams can master these revolutionary battlefield shifts first.

The stakes are higher than ever in MPL Malaysia Season 16. With gold medal ambitions fueling #TeamMAS and groundbreaking map updates shaking the competitive landscape, Week 2 promises fireworks both inside and outside the Land of Dawn.
