The Indie Game Award 2026, hosted by Taipei Game Show, has officially announced its winners—and this year’s ceremony delivered both emotional highs and global recognition for indie developers. Leading the night was Japanese studio TearyHand Studio, whose narrative-driven title and Roger claimed the prestigious Grand Prix alongside Best Audio, earning praise from judges for its powerful storytelling and deeply moving soundtrack.
According to the jury, and Roger stood out for its refined controls, seamless integration of music and narrative, and its rare ability to emotionally resonate long after the credits roll. Multiple judges admitted they were “moved to tears,” cementing the title as one of the most impactful indie games of the year.
Indie Game Award 2026 Breaks Records With Global Participation
The 2026 edition of the Indie Game Award marked a milestone for the program. Held in collaboration with PlayStation, the competition attracted 515 submissions from 51 countries and regions, representing a 1.5× increase over the previous year and the largest number of entries in the award’s 12-year history.

Developed by TearyHand Studio in Japan, and Roger captured the jury’s attention through its emotionally charged narrative and masterfully composed audio. Judges highlighted how music is not merely an accompaniment, but a storytelling force that fully immerses players in the experience.
Even after the game concludes, its themes and emotions linger—an achievement that ultimately secured both the Grand Prix and Best Audio awards.
Taiwanese Indie Developers Shine on the Global Stage
Taiwanese studios made a strong impression at Indie Game Award 2026. FromDawn Games’ Aeruta earned Best Visual Art, blending action-adventure gameplay with simulation elements. Its Japanese-inspired art direction and charming character designs were praised as “a joy to play.”
Meanwhile, Froggo’s Adventure: Drifting Sky, developed by SmellyFrog, won Best Student Game. Featuring a pixel-art frog protagonist exploring a magical 2D world, the game delighted judges with its nostalgic chiptune soundtrack, clever details, and irresistibly charming presentation.

A reflective experience that reconstructs memories of an old apartment building through everyday objects, revealing interconnected personal stories from a bygone era. - Best Innovation: No Players Online by Beeswax Games (Belgium)
A haunting puzzle experience that recreates early computer interfaces, praised for its unsettling atmosphere and layered storytelling hidden within a shooter framework. - Best Design: BALL x PIT by Kenny Sun & Friends (United States)
A high-energy fusion of brick-breaking, ball-combining, base-building, and roguelite mechanics, delivering endless strategic depth through procedural evolution. - Best Mobile Game: Graytail by Concode (South Korea)
A narrative-driven mystery where players investigate mutants on an island, praised for its smooth storytelling and elegant visual style.
