Fans of classic action-adventure games have a new reason to revisit the legendary trilogy starring Lara Croft. Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics have released a surprise Challenge Mode update for Tomb Raider I–III Remastered Starring Lara Croft, bringing new gameplay modifiers, outfits, and achievements to the beloved remastered collection.
The free update launched March 12, 2026, alongside the game’s debut on Nintendo Switch 2, as well as its first-ever release on iOS and Android devices.
The update arrives just in time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Tomb Raider franchise, giving both longtime fans and newcomers fresh challenges across Lara Croft’s earliest adventures.
Challenge Mode Adds Custom Difficulty and Endless Replayability
The headline feature of the update is the all-new Challenge Mode, which allows players to customize the difficulty of each level across the trilogy.
Players can modify a wide range of gameplay elements, including:
- Player health
- Enemy damage
- Bonus modifiers
- Enemy behavior and encounters
- Additional gameplay parameters
Each run receives a Challenge Rating based on the chosen modifiers. The higher the rating, the more rewards players can unlock, encouraging experimentation and multiple playthroughs.
10 New Lara Croft Outfits With Gameplay Bonuses
Completing Challenge Mode achievements unlocks 10 brand-new outfits for Lara Croft.
Unlike purely cosmetic skins, these outfits come with special gameplay perks, including abilities such as:
- Faster movement speed
- Improved combat capabilities
- Increased diving depth for underwater exploration
These bonuses provide strategic advantages during tougher Challenge Mode runs and give players more reasons to revisit the trilogy.
15 New Achievements Added
For players chasing trophies and completion milestones, the update introduces 15 new achievements tied specifically to Challenge Mode challenges.
These achievements push players to experiment with different modifier combinations while mastering each of the trilogy’s iconic levels.
