A massive new update is about to shake up the world of RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Developer Jagex has officially confirmed that the next major content expansion, Dowdun Reach, will launch on March 31, 2026, bringing a brand-new region, powerful enemies, and major gameplay changes to the fast-growing survival RPG.
The update also arrives while the game is still in Steam Early Access, continuing the steady flow of new content that has kept the RuneScape spin-off gaining momentum since its 2025 debut.
A Dangerous New Region: Welcome to Dowdun Reach
The upcoming update introduces Dowdun Reach, a dark and corrupted fortress region built around a massive labyrinthine stronghold. At the center of the chaos is the terrifying Black Knight Titan, who now rules the region with an army of heavily armored followers.
Players who explore the new zone can expect:
- A sprawling interconnected fortress filled with secrets
- Side quests and hidden lore
- Enemy splinter groups across the stronghold
- Lesser Blue Dragons guarding key areas
- Challenging exploration designed for solo players or co-op teams
The new region continues the story set on Ashenfall, the previously undiscovered continent where players explore, craft, and survive in a world inspired by the classic RuneScape universe.
Level Caps Raised to 99 Across All Skills
One of the biggest gameplay changes arriving with the Dowdun Reach update is the increase of the level cap for every skill to 99. This means players grinding experience across the map will no longer risk wasting XP as the game evolves during Early Access.
Max-level skill capes will also be introduced, a long-time fan-favorite feature that brings the traditional RuneScape progression system into the Dragonwilds experience.
New Gear Tier and Powerful Mithril Weapons
The update isn’t just about exploration. Dowdun Reach introduces an entirely new gear tier centered around Mithril, one of the most iconic metals in the RuneScape universe.
Players can expect:
- Eight new Mithril weapons, including a Greataxe and Greatsword
- New ranged weapons such as the Maple Shortbow and Longbow
- Blue Dragon Hide armor
- The return of the iconic Mystic Robes for magic-focused players
- New mining opportunities with rich Mithril veins hidden throughout the fortress
These additions are designed to make the new region one of the most rewarding — and dangerous — areas in the game so far.
Dragonwilds Continues to Expand in Early Access
The Dowdun Reach update follows a strong start for RuneScape: Dragonwilds since its first major update, Fellhollow, launched in December 2025. Smaller updates like February’s Beyond the Grave have continued to add quests, improvements, and new activities for players exploring Ashenfall.
According to Jagex, the roadmap for 2026 remains ambitious, with more major updates already planned:
- Umbral Sands – expected in late Q2 2026
- Scorned Wilderness – scheduled for late Q3 2026
- The long-awaited Fishing Skill – arriving later in April 2026
