Crunchyroll delivered one of the biggest showcases of Anime Expo 2026, unveiling a wave of major anime announcements that included a brand-new Solo Leveling theatrical film, the first character reveal for Ghost of Tsushima Legends, and fresh updates on several highly anticipated series arriving over the next two years.
Held on July 3 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the annual Crunchyroll Showcase featured exclusive trailers, world premieres, surprise guest appearances, and never-before-seen production materials, giving anime fans plenty to look forward to.
Solo Leveling: Beyond the System Movie Officially Announced

The biggest announcement of the evening was the reveal of Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, a brand-new anime theatrical film that continues the story immediately after the events of Solo Leveling Season 2.
The surprise was introduced by Aleks Le, the English voice actor for Sung Jinwoo, who appeared on stage to confirm that production is officially underway.

Crunchyroll also offered fans their first proper look at the characters from the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime adaptation.
Originally announced in partnership with Aniplex, Sony Music, and PlayStation Productions, the anime expands upon the acclaimed action-adventure franchise inspired by feudal Japan.
The adaptation is directed by Takanobu Mizuno, with HAYATE Inc. overseeing production. The screenplay is written by Satoshi Maejima and renowned writer Gen Urobuchi, who is also responsible for the series composition.
Character designs are created by Takashi Okazaki, while animation production is handled by KAMIKAZE DOUGA, aiming to recreate the game’s cinematic samurai aesthetic in anime form.
Crunchyroll confirmed that additional production details and the anime’s premiere window will be revealed in the future.
Nirvana Song Headlines The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy At All
One of the showcase’s most unexpected moments came when legendary rock musician Dave Grohl appeared in a special video message for Anime Expo attendees.
Grohl announced that Nirvana’s iconic song “Breed” will serve as the opening theme for the anime adaptation of The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy At All, scheduled to premiere in early 2027.
The romantic comedy follows Aya, an outgoing high school student obsessed with rock music, who falls for a mysterious employee at a local CD shop—only to discover that her crush is actually her female classmate, Mitsuki.
The adaptation is expected to blend romance, comedy, and music culture into one of 2027’s most anticipated anime releases.
Kagurabachi Anime Shares New Character Design
Following the recent confirmation that Kagurabachi will stream on Crunchyroll in 2027, Anime Expo attendees received another exclusive preview.
Japanese voice actor Taihi Kimura, who plays protagonist Chihiro Rokuhira, joined Kyle Cardine, Editor-in-Chief of Crunchyroll News, for a special Q&A session.
Fans were also treated to an exclusive look at Chihiro’s provisional character design sheet, offering an early glimpse at the anime’s visual direction.
The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 5 Confirmed for 2027
Crunchyroll also confirmed that The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 5 will arrive on the streaming platform next year.
Naofumi’s adventure continues as new conflicts emerge that threaten not only his companions but also the remaining Cardinal Heroes. The showcase included an early teaser preview, while previous seasons remain available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
Dengeki Daisy Anime Debuts Its First Trailer
Romance fans also received the world premiere trailer for Dengeki Daisy, which is set to debut on Crunchyroll in 2027.

Magical Buffs Arrives January 2027
Fantasy fans have another series to anticipate with Magical Buffs – The Support Caster is Stronger Than He Realized!
The story follows talented support mage Wim Strauss, who is expelled from his guild before joining his childhood friend’s elite A-Rank guild, Nachtibelle. There, he discovers that his support abilities are far more powerful than anyone realized.
The anime premieres on Crunchyroll in January 2027.
The Vermilion Mask Returns With New Preview
Crunchyroll showcased another trailer for The Vermilion Mask, which is scheduled to premiere in October 2026.
