Dune: Awakening PS5 Gameplay Revealed at Gamescom as Filmic Archive DLC and Cross-Play Announced

Dune: Awakening

Dune: Awakening is making a major appearance at Gamescom 2026, with Funcom unveiling fresh PlayStation 5 gameplay footage, announcing a new movie-inspired DLC pack, and confirming that PC and console cross-play is in development.

The announcements arrive just weeks before the open-world survival game expands beyond PC. Following its June 2025 PC launch, Dune: Awakening is set to arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox on September 22, 2026, bringing new features, a full single-player experience, the conclusion of its main story, and a substantial collection of improvements.

Dune: Awakening PS5 Gameplay Takes the Spotlight at Gamescom

Visitors attending Gamescom in Cologne can get their first hands-on experience with the PlayStation 5 version of Dune: Awakening this week. For players following the game from home, Funcom has also released seven minutes of new gameplay footage captured on a PlayStation 5 Pro.

The footage offers a closer look at how Dune: Awakening translates its expansive survival experience to consoles, including its visuals, exploration, combat, and overall performance.

On the standard PlayStation 5, Performance Mode targets 60 frames per second with dynamic resolution, while the PlayStation 5 Pro can maintain 60fps in Performance Mode. Quality Mode runs at 30fps on both consoles.

Both PlayStation 5 models support upscaled 4K resolution in Performance and Quality modes, giving console players multiple options depending on whether they prioritize frame rate or visual quality.

Dune: Awakening Filmic Archive DLC Arrives September 22

Alongside the console gameplay reveal, Funcom announced Filmic Archive, a new DLC pack inspired by the visual style of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films.

The Filmic Archive DLC will launch on September 22, 2026, the same day Dune: Awakening arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox. It will be available across all supported platforms for ₱615.92 ($9.99).

The expansion gives players the opportunity to bring several recognizable elements from the movies into their in-game characters and bases.

Among the highlights is the Aegis of the Unwalked Path armor, inspired by Paul Atreides’ visions of Fremen holy warriors in Dune: Part One. Players can also equip the Caladan Stormcoat, the outfit worn by Paul and Duke Leto in the first film.

Filmic Archive will include additional movie-inspired outfits as well as a substantial 73-piece Sardaukar-themed base-building set based on the feared Imperial soldiers.

Funcom is scheduled to reveal more of the DLC in a trailer during the Xbox Broadcast on August 28, 2026.

PC and Console Cross-Play Confirmed

One of the biggest announcements for the Dune: Awakening community is confirmation that PC and console cross-play is coming after launch.

Cross-play was reportedly one of the most requested features following the announcement of the console versions. Funcom has now confirmed that players across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox will eventually be able to play together.

However, the studio has not yet announced a specific release date for the feature. More details are expected once development progresses further.

The decision should make Dune: Awakening’s shared-world experience considerably more accessible, particularly for groups of friends playing on different platforms.

September 22 Is a Major Milestone for Dune: Awakening

The September 22 console launch represents more than a platform expansion for Dune: Awakening.

Funcom is also using the release to introduce a full single-player mode, bring the game’s story to its dramatic conclusion, and add more customization options. Players will also have greater control over difficulty, allowing them to tailor the experience to their preferred playstyle.

According to Scott Junior, Chief Product Officer and Executive Producer for Dune: Awakening, the console launch also brings approximately a year’s worth of PC additions and enhancements to PlayStation 5 and Xbox on day one.

“September marks a major milestone for Dune: Awakening,” Junior said. “Not only is the game coming to PlayStation 5 and XBOX, this release is also a major step forward for the game as we introduce a full single-player mode, wrap up the story, and add an incredible amount of game customization, allowing players to fully scale difficulty levels.”

That makes the September release particularly significant for newcomers who have been waiting for the console version rather than jumping into the PC edition.

Dune: Awakening Physical Edition and Xbox Game Pass Details

Players who prefer physical releases will also have an option when Dune: Awakening launches on PlayStation 5.

A physical PS5 edition will be released through Funcom’s distribution partners on September 22, with pre-orders already available at select retailers. Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe will distribute the physical release across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

Solutions 2 GO Inc. will handle distribution in North and South America, while Spike Chunsoft will publish the game digitally and physically in Japan.

The Japanese release is scheduled for October 29, 2026.

Dune: Awakening will also join Xbox Game Pass on September 22, giving subscribers another way to experience the open-world survival game.

Dune: Awakening Early Access Begins September 17

Players purchasing the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition on PlayStation 5 or Xbox won’t have to wait until the official September 22 launch.

Both editions provide five days of early access, allowing owners to begin playing on September 17, 2026.

That gives dedicated fans an opportunity to enter the harsh world of Arrakis ahead of the standard launch while also getting an early start on the game’s expanded console experience.

Dune: Awakening Heads Into Its Biggest Update Yet

With the PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions arriving next month, the Gamescom 2026 announcements position Dune: Awakening for one of its most important moments since its PC debut.

The combination of a full single-player mode, the conclusion of its story, extensive customization, movie-inspired content, Xbox Game Pass availability, and eventual PC-console cross-play could significantly broaden the game’s audience.

For fans of Frank Herbert’s universe and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films, the Filmic Archive DLC also adds another layer of fan-focused content just as Dune: Awakening prepares to expand to consoles.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions of Dune: Awakening launch on September 22, 2026, while the Filmic Archive DLC arrives on the same day. Deluxe and Ultimate Edition owners can start playing five days earlier on September 17.
