Battlefield 6 Launches Winter Offensive Update as REDSEC Season 1 Begins

Battlefield

Winter has officially arrived on the battlefield. Battlefield Studios has rolled out a massive seasonal update for Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC, debuting Season 1: Winter Offensive—a content drop packed with brutal weather conditions, fresh gameplay mechanics, a frosty new map experience, and the kickoff of the competitive REDSEC Elite Series.

The new Winter Offensive update brings a snowbound twist to the franchise’s signature warfare, featuring Ice Lock, a limited-time winter overhaul of the Empire State map. Alongside this icy battleground, players can unlock seasonal gear via the Winter Offensive Bonus Path, including the chilling new Ice Climbing Axe, while creators gain access to new Portal tools that expand the possibilities for custom modes and events.

Ice Lock Freezes Over the Empire State

The centerpiece of the Winter Offensive update is Ice Lock, a frozen reimagining of the Empire State map in both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. Players will battle for dominance across a Brooklyn buried in frost, fighting not only enemy squads but the cold itself.

In Battlefield 6, Ice Lock includes special versions of Conquest and Domination with an all-new Freeze mechanic. Sub-zero temperatures engulf areas around the Combat Zone, gradually freezing soldiers who stay exposed for too long. To survive, players must sprint, inject themselves with Adrenaline, or retreat to heat zones scattered across the map.

This Freeze mechanic introduces a strategic twist—will squads risk freezing to secure a vital objective, or load up on heat sources to burn through enemy lines?

REDSEC’s Ice Lock Gauntlet Turns Up the Pressure

Ice Lock is also joining the REDSEC experience with a limited-time Ice Lock Gauntlet. This mode features a locked rotation of three challenging missions—Deadlock, Extraction, and Wreckage—intensified by severe winter conditions that leave no room for hesitation.

Between the Freeze mechanic and the map’s icy visual overhaul, the Gauntlet becomes even more punishing, dialing up the tension and rewarding only the most coordinated teams.

Winter Offensive Bonus Path Unlocks New Rewards

The Winter Offensive Bonus Path grants access to fresh seasonal unlocks and premium cosmetic rewards, including the standout Ice Climbing Axe. Whether players want to survive harsh conditions or just look good doing it, the Bonus Path offers plenty to chase.

New Portal Tools Expand Creative Freedom

Battlefield creators will see major improvements with Winter Offensive thanks to new Portal features that enhance customization:

Verified Gauntlet – The complete REDSEC mission set is now available in Portal, allowing fans to design their own Gauntlet experiences—from laid-back runs to high-stakes competitive gauntlets.

Ice Lock Empire State – Build custom modes atop the winterized Empire State or add it to existing map rotations.

Freeze Mechanic – Add freeze and heat zones to any custom creation—yes, even in the scorching streets of Cairo.

With these additions, Portal creators can craft more dynamic and unpredictable modes than ever before.

REDSEC Elite Series and Open Series Begin This Week

Competitive players have even more to look forward to, as the REDSEC Elite Series and Open Series officially kick off this week. Battlefield Studios promises full schedules, rulesets, and additional updates through the official blog, giving players a clear path to climb the competitive ladder.
