A two-person team from Taiwan, Psychoflow Studio, is turning heads with their gravity-bending, dimension-shifting debut title, Bionic Bay. Developed in collaboration with Finland-based Mureena, Bionic Bay has just snagged the Best Design award at Indie Game Award 2025, organized by Taipei Game Show, adding to their already impressive accolades from a Japanese indie game festival.
This victory marks a significant milestone for the studio, as co-founder Kevin Lai explains, “This award is a significant recognition of our five-year development journey, further boosting the team’s confidence as they are now preparing for the official game launch.”
From Classroom Dream to International Collaboration
The genesis of Bionic Bay is a unique story. What started as a university classroom project by co-founder Xiao-Fong Huang caught the attention of Mureena from Finland after being shared on Reddit. A shared creative vision sparked a five-year international collaboration, a journey neither team initially foresaw.
Bionic Bay‘s core mechanic, position-swapping, was the foundation of the initial prototype. However, through extensive playtesting, the developers unlocked new gameplay dimensions by incorporating gravity and time manipulation. This combination creates a multi-dimensional puzzle-action experience unlike any other. The game’s pulled-back camera perspective, a departure from traditional action games, offers a wider view of the world, enhancing both the visual aesthetics and player navigation.
A Milestone Victory and a Delayed, Polished Launch
Entering Indie Game Award 2025 was a strategic move for Psychoflow Studio, seeking industry recognition and a broader player base. Winning Best Design not only provided invaluable exposure but also solidified their journey as a studio.
Originally scheduled for release this month, Bionic Bay has been pushed back to April 17th to allow the team to polish the final details, ensuring a top-tier player experience. The game is estimated to offer 6 to 10 hours of gameplay, though completion time will vary depending on player skill.
