MANILA – De La Salle’s Viridis Arcus will represent the Philippines in the Campus Game Fest 2024 in Singapore this weekend.
The reigning Collegiate Center for Esports (CCE) League Season 4 champion will proudly hoist the country’s flag in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament in this event staged by the Singapore Cybersports and Online Gaming Association (SCOGA).
The team led by Aaron “Aaronqt” Lim and Ryu “Laytutu” Godoy, and coached by Kenneth Jiane “Kenji” Villa completed a perfect run in the CCE playoffs, including a masterful 3-0 sweep of TFX Nireus of Far Eastern University in the Grand Finals held last July at the Philippine Game Dev Expo (PGDX).
Also heading to the Lion City is DLSU-Dasmarinas’ Jed Soriano, who will carry the national tri-colors in the Street Fighter 6 tourney.
It’s all part of the CCE’s first iteration of the Next Gen Program as student-esports athletes fly to Singapore for a full weekend of esports immersion from Oct. 24 to 28.
Winners of the Next Gen Program are Marlon Mattew Apilado and Czyra Jane Mangahas of Lyceum of the Philippines University, Shane Marcial Andoque from the University of Santo Tomas, and Valerie Byczko of Enderun Colleges. They were chosen by an esteemed panel of judges, composed of representatives from the program’s sponsors based on specific criteria, as they are poised to gain immersive exposure to the esports industry on an international scale, networking with key players, and gaining first-hand insights into international esports ecosystems.
It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the esports industry outside the Philippines, with the platform providing an avenue for the next generation of esports professionals. The program is divided into two parts: competitors and students, each offering a unique pathway to engage with the international esports scene.
The Next Gen Program is designed to inspire and cultivate the next generation of esports professionals. As the esports industry continues to grow, programs like these ensure that young Filipino talent remains competitive and ready to make their mark on the global stage.
