Netherlands-based indie developer Bjenssen has announced the arrival of their minimalist, action-packed strategy game, Counter Clash, in Early Access on Steam today. This game, inspired by classic RTS titles like Battle for Middle Earth and Age of Empires, is the first commercial, solo-developed game by the indie micro-studio. Counter Clash is also the debut title from new indie publisher, The CoLab, which aims to make the indie publishing scene fairer and more collaborative.
A Fresh Take on Strategy Games
Counter Clash offers a lighter look at strategy games, making it easier to understand and faster to play. With simplified city building, upgrades, and troop management, players can focus more on their tactics. The game is full of old-school vibes reminiscent of strategy games from the ’90s, blending elements of Cannon Fodder and Age of Empires into a funky, modern experience.
Choose Your Faction
When starting a game, players can choose from different factions, each offering distinct playstyles and unique heroes, resource management, troops, and upgrades. Counter your opponent with over 30 different troops or outsmart them by using the environment to your advantage. Factions available at launch include:
- Monceaux: A religious kingdom formed of knights and warriors, mastering versatile troops, powerful healing, and siege engines.
- Fahad: A nomadic culture harnessing elemental forces, using fast, high-damage units and elemental magic to crush opponents.
- URA: A republic of scientists and mechanics, specializing in tactical superiority and raw firepower.
