Spanish indie studio DevilishGames, known for experimental titles like Minabo, Path to Mnemosyne, and Bambas!, has unveiled its latest project: Cutout Village. This charming narrative and management hybrid lets players cut, fold, and glue their way to rebuilding a once-forgotten medieval town, combining cozy crafting with meaningful themes of sustainability and community revival.
A Village on the Brink of Extinction
Cutout Village follows the story of a couple who inherit a family home in an abandoned town. Upon moving in, they discover a village at the edge of disappearance—one that can only be saved through restoration, new construction, and the determination to breathe life back into its streets. Each level presents unique challenges tied to scarce services and opportunities, blending narrative depth with DevilishGames’ signature creative mechanics.
A Cutout World of Medieval Charm
The game’s art direction is inspired by 1960s paper cutouts and the aesthetics of disappearing medieval villages. This design choice evokes a pre-digital era when leisure was shaped by hands-on creativity rather than screens. Houses, trees, and decorations arrive as paper sheets to cut, fold, and assemble—both digitally and physically. In addition to the game, DevilishGames plans to release a cutout book, allowing players to recreate their villages in real life, blurring the line between digital play and tangible crafting.
Cozy Crafting Meets Meaningful Themes
At its core, Cutout Village combines wholesome DIY gameplay with storytelling that touches on depopulation, sustainability, and the importance of preserving local culture. With sandbox options for creativity and the ability to share villages with friends, the game invites players to imagine new ways of building and living together. It’s a thoughtful yet cozy approach, turning the act of crafting into a metaphor for community care.
Release Plans and Platforms
Cutout Village is set to release in 2026 on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. A first look trailer is already available, along with a free printable cutout sheet that gives players a taste of the crafting mechanics. You can add the game to your Steam Wishlist now and follow its development updates on Instagram, X, and Bluesky.
