Factory-building fans have more reasons to celebrate as Dawn Apart, the voxel-based automation game from Berlin studio Industrial Technology and Witchcraft, has officially launched on the Epic Games Store for $19.99 USD. Already a hit with creative builders on Steam Early Access, the game continues to expand its reach with new updates, community-driven features, and an unexpectedly witty approach to piracy.
Expanding Beyond Steam: Dawn Apart Comes to Epic
Until now, Dawn Apart was only available on Steam, where it quickly earned a following for its destructible voxel planets, deep automation mechanics, and creative modding community. With its debut on Epic Games Store, Industrial Technology and Witchcraft is broadening access to a new audience of PC players while preparing a detailed content roadmap for the months ahead.
In addition, the team has officially confirmed Japanese localization is on the way—a move that will bring the game to even more fans globally. Interestingly, a community modder already created an unofficial Japanese translation, which the developers praised while working on their full release.
Fighting Pirates…With In-Game Pirates
One of the more surprising stories surrounding Dawn Apart has been its hidden anti-piracy system. Despite the game launching without traditional DRM, players who downloaded illegal copies quickly discovered that something felt…off.
As explained by Thilo Hardt, co-founder of Industrial Technology and Witchcraft, the system quietly detects pirated copies and floods players’ bases with unbeatable swarms of enemies—making survival virtually impossible.
“Without revealing all our secrets, let’s just say the game knows when it’s been pirated. And when it does, the player’s base is swamped with tons of enemies that make the game unplayable,” Hardt said.
The studio knew it was working almost immediately: within days of launch, their Discord server was full of complaints from players asking how to stop the endless in-game “pirates.” The developers politely suggested buying a legal copy.
Amusingly, the idea for this system came over a year ago, after Dawn Apart’s debut trailer. An obscure outlet wrote that no torrents existed for the not-yet-released game—a tongue-in-cheek moment that inspired the team to turn “pirates against pirates.”
What’s Next for Dawn Apart
With its new Epic Games Store launch, an upcoming roadmap, and official localization, Dawn Apart is charting a clear course for Early Access growth. Fans can expect expanded features, improved systems, and community-driven improvements in the months to come.
For now, the developers encourage players to support the project by purchasing legally on either Steam or Epic Games Store.
