Honor of Kings Community Shows How Gaming Can Protect Our Planet

Honor of Kings

In celebration of Earth Day, TiMi Studio Group and Level Infinite extend their heartfelt thanks to the Honor of Kings community for their remarkable participation in this year’s Green Game Jam initiative. Organized by Playing For The Planet and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), this initiative has raised awareness about environmental issues and supported conservation projects in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brazil.

In-Game Events Drive Environmental Awareness

Players engaged in two in-game events, Protect Nature, Protect All Life and Match for Green, which combined educational content with engaging gameplay. The Protect Nature, Protect All Life event highlighted unique forest ecosystems and showcased 18 plant and animal species, including endangered ones. With over 90% player participation, this event demonstrated the power of eco-conscious content in gaming. A follow-up survey revealed that 87.97% of participants were more likely to take action to protect the environment in their daily lives.

Match for Green leveraged the social dynamics of MOBA games to achieve viral growth. Each player’s invitation led to an average of two additional participants within the first week, amplifying outreach through organic peer networks. Players showed remarkable dedication in their quest for the prestigious “Nature’s Protector” title, demonstrating how honor-driven incentives paired with real-world purpose can inspire extraordinary commitment.

Players can still participate in these events until May 4 to make an even greater difference.

Collective Efforts Reduce Carbon Emissions

Thanks to the global Honor of Kings community, 28,000 metric tons of carbon credits were purchased and retired across four projects, providing critical funding to real-world conservation efforts. These projects include:

  • Katingan Mentaya Project (Indonesia): Protects peatland in Central Kalimantan and reduces emissions.
  • Kuamut Rainforest Conservation Project (Malaysia): Conserves the Kuamut rainforest’s biodiversity and supports local communities.
  • Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve Project (Indonesia): Protects tropical forests and conserves biodiversity.
  • Brazilian Amazon APD Grouped Project (Brazil): Prevents deforestation through financial incentives.

Real-World Conservation Efforts

Inspired by the Green Game Jam, members of the Honor of Kings community organized their own conservation activities outside of the game:

  • Indonesia: Donations made during an Honor of Kings live stream enabled the planting of mangroves at Taman Wisata Alam Mangrove Angke Kapuk in Jakarta.
  • Philippines: In partnership with Million Trees Foundation, content creators ran a challenge where each enemy taken down translated to one tree being hydrobagged to protect and help them grow.

Once again, the Honor of Kings team thanks the community for their participation and the results achieved. Their contribution to both online and real-world activations demonstrates how gaming can be a positive force in raising awareness for conservation and supporting endangered ecosystems.
