A deeply personal and beautifully hand-crafted 2D narrative game, Letters of War, has been officially unveiled by indie studio Wood Cabin Games. Inspired by the award-winning Valiant Hearts: The Great War and rooted in a real family memory, the game is set to launch on Steam in Summer 2025.
The announcement comes with the debut of the game’s official teaser trailer and a newly launched Steam page, giving players their first look at a heartfelt wartime story shaped by love, loss, and remembrance.
✉️ A Letter from the Past
Letters of War follows the emotional journey of Liam, a British carpenter who volunteers to fight in World War II, and his daughter Rosie, who remains at home in wartime Britain. Told through alternating perspectives, the game places players both in the heart of major historical conflicts like Normandy and Monte Cassino, and in the quieter domestic moments where a young girl clings to hope through her father’s letters.
The game’s narrative—like its inspiration—is drawn from true events. According to Wood Cabin Games, the story is based on the life of the lead developer’s grandmother, who is now 88 years old. Her experiences and memories helped shape the emotional core of Letters of War.
