One of the most celebrated deckbuilders of the decade is pulling into the station with its most ambitious content drop to date. Monster Train 2 is set to receive its first major DLC, Destiny of the Railforged, launching today, February 2, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a Nintendo Switch release coming shortly after.
Developed by Shiny Shoe and published under Big Fan, a Devolver Digital label, the $9.99 DLC introduces a massive new game mode, powerful new bosses, a fully playable clan, and sweeping progression systems—cementing Destiny of the Railforged as the largest post-launch update the game has seen so far.
Destiny of the Railforged Introduces a Bold New Game Mode
The centerpiece of the DLC is Soul Savior, an all-new game mode that dramatically reshapes how Monster Train 2 is played. Set in a cosmic new environment, Soul Savior challenges players to confront the Lifemother and her corrupted offspring in battles that can be tackled in any order.
Each defeated boss inflicts lasting curses, forcing players to weigh risk against reward as they push deeper into the run. In exchange, players can claim powerful Souls and attach them directly to cards, unlocking game-changing effects that radically expand deck-building possibilities.
Unlike the base game, Soul Savior emphasizes long-term meta progression, allowing players to grow stronger with each run and explore strategies unavailable anywhere else in Monster Train 2.
New Bosses and Enemies Raise the Stakes
Destiny of the Railforged also introduces a lineup of fearsome new bosses and enemies tied to the DLC’s cosmic setting. These adversaries join forces with familiar foes to create some of the most challenging encounters Monster Train 2 has ever offered.
Each boss encounter is designed to test adaptability, pushing even veteran tacticians to rethink positioning, synergies, and card upgrades on the fly.
The Railforged Clan Joins the Battle
For the first time in the series, players can command the Railforged Clan, the legendary builders of the trains themselves. Available across all game modes, this new playable clan adds fresh mechanics and identity to Monster Train 2.
The Railforged Clan is led by two new characters:
Herzal
A master blacksmith who personally forged the Rail and the iconic Boneshaker train, Herzal brings precision-crafted power and strategic depth to every run.
Heph
A hammer-wielding juggernaut responsible for crafting the Covenant Outpost and the Skullcrusher engine, Heph offers raw strength and devastating battlefield control.
Together, these leaders give players entirely new ways to approach Monster Train 2’s vertical combat system.
Wurmkin Clan Returns Free for All Players
Alongside the paid DLC, Shiny Shoe is also delivering a major free update. The fan-favorite Wurmkin Clan returns to Monster Train 2 today as a free addition for all players.
Originally introduced in the first Monster Train, the Wurmkin have been fully reworked and refined to align with Monster Train 2’s mechanics. Known for their powerful buffs and spell-based strategies, the clan once again brings high-impact, wide-reaching effects to the battlefield.
A Continually Expanding Strategy Experience
Destiny of the Railforged continues Monster Train 2’s strong post-launch support, following a steady stream of free updates that have introduced new challenges, systems, and strategic depth since launch.
With a new mode, new progression layers, additional bosses, and expanded clan options, this DLC reinforces Monster Train 2’s position as one of the most replayable and inventive deckbuilders on the market.
