MPL Malaysia Season 16 Awards: A Historic Farewell Before the New Era of Esports

MPL

The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Malaysia has officially unveiled its Season 16 Awards, marking not just another celebration of the league’s best talents, but also a defining milestone in Malaysian esports history. This will be the final edition of the awards before MPL Malaysia transitions to an “enhanced franchise format” in 2026, closing the curtain on a legendary era.

The awards, announced during Week 3 of the Regular Season (September 26–28), will honor top-performing athletes, breakout rookies, and industry stakeholders who helped shape the league over the past eight years. For the first time, MPL Malaysia introduced a brand-new recognition—the “2025 Media – Best Content Award”—celebrating the top three pieces of esports storytelling that elevated the scene.

Krystal Tan, Head of Business Development for Malaysia Esports at MOONTON Games, highlighted the importance of this year’s honors:
“This season’s Awards are a tribute to the incredible players, talents, and fans who have built this community into a national entertainment powerhouse. What makes Season 16 even more meaningful is that it closes one chapter while ushering in a new era with the enhanced franchise model. This year’s winners will forever be remembered as the final legends of this era.”

Week 3 Recap: CG Esports Still on Top Despite Loss

Week 3 brought high drama as Selangor Red Giants OG Esports (SRG) handed CG Esports (CG) their first defeat of the season in a thrilling 2-1 reverse sweep. Despite the loss, CG, led by MLBB veteran Muhammad Danial “CikuGais” Mohamad Fuad, maintained their top spot with 13 points.

The setback didn’t shake CG’s reputation, as their strong macro plays reminded fans why they’ve been a dominant force in MLBB esports. SRG, meanwhile, closed the gap to just three points with one game in hand, proving they remain one of Malaysia’s most feared squads.

Team Vamos Rise, SRG Stay Dangerous

The biggest movers of Week 3 were Team Vamos (VMS), who surged into second place with 11 points after a dominant 2-0 sweep over Untitled (UNT). SRG, despite their landmark win against CG, slipped to third place with 10 points. However, their victory showed why the three-time champions remain the blueprint for Malaysian esports success.

Week 4 Preview: #WomenInEsports Take the Spotlight

All eyes now turn to Week 4, where MPL Malaysia will shine a spotlight on #WomenInEsports. In a historic first, Coach Tasia “Tazy” Eda Lestari of AERO Esports and Analyst Mariah “Coach Mariah” Binti Ahmad of CG Esports will face off in a highly anticipated showdown this Friday at 5:45 PM GMT+8.

Both AERO and CG will be looking to bounce back after tough losses to SRG last week, making this clash a crucial momentum-builder at the season’s halfway point.
