A new player has entered the indie gaming scene! Tokyo-based publisher C#4R4CT3R (pronounced CHARACTER) today announced its debut title, the captivating adventure game Rain98. The announcement was made during the “INDIE Live Expo” livestream held on April 13th, 2025, coinciding with the launch of the game’s official STEAM page.
Rain98 is slated for release on Steam in Fall 2025, with console releases also in the pipeline. This unique title blends psychological thriller elements with a touch of romance, all wrapped in the nostalgic lo-fi vibes of late 1990s Tokyo. Players will find themselves in the intimate, yet somewhat melancholic, apartment of Reina Amahara (voiced by Rio Tsuchiya), a girl who is both dangerously charming and charmingly dangerous. Together, they must navigate a mysterious ritual that holds the potential to either save or doom the world.
The development team behind Rain98 drew significant inspiration from iconic ‘90s anime masterpieces such as Perfect Blue and Ocean Waves, aiming to craft a truly distinctive and bewitching atmosphere.
Alongside the unveiling of the first trailer for Rain98, C#4R4CT3R has also launched its official X (Twitter) account and a dedicated Discord server. These platforms will serve as hubs for future announcements, showcasing captivating artwork, and sharing intriguing tidbits about the game’s alluring world.
