Path of Exile: Mirage Launches March 7 – New League, Endgame Overhaul, Exceptional Supports & Desert Necromancers Await

Path of Exile

The next era of Path of Exile Mirage is almost here. Launching on March 7 at 3AM Singapore Time, the newest expansion for Path of Exile delivers one of the most ambitious overhauls in the game’s history—introducing a brand-new challenge league, sweeping Atlas changes, powerful Exceptional Supports, and a deadly new endgame boss.

From desert necromancers imprisoning Djinn to a reworked mapping system inspired by Zana’s legacy, Path of Exile Mirage reshapes Wraeclast in ways both familiar and thrillingly unpredictable.

The Mirage League: Break the Chains of the Djinn

At the heart of Path of Exile Mirage is a mysterious desert faction known as the Afarud—necromancers who have captured Djinn across Wraeclast. These imprisoned entities are being drained of their ancient energy, threatening forces tied to the Maraketh’s history.

Players will confront Afarud Warlocks guarding the captive Djinn. After victory, Varashta—an ancient Maraketh sorceress—opens a portal into the Astral Realm through a Mirage.

But these Mirages aren’t mere illusions.

They replicate the player’s map modifiers, mechanics, and enhancements—effectively allowing Exiles to replay and amplify their juiced content for even greater rewards.

In Path of Exile Mirage, doubling down on risk means doubling down on loot.

Shape the Mirage with Wishes

Before entering a Mirage, Varashta offers one of three powerful Wishes. Each dramatically reshapes the experience and ties into a Djinn sigil—Sand, Fire, or Water.

Wish Options in Path of Exile Mirage:

  • Wish for Glyphs – Portal and Wisdom Scroll drops convert into other currencies.
  • Wish for Avarice – Monster packs are replaced with Gilded enemies that convert gear into Gold.
  • Wish for Godhood – Grants overwhelming power, including temporary invulnerability inside the Mirage.

Each sigil enables new currency drops:

  • Coin of Knowledge
  • Coin of Power
  • Coin of Skill

These Coins can corrupt max-level skill gems, granting a random support gem effect aligned with the Coin’s color—creating entirely new build opportunities in Path of Exile Mirage.

Replay Endgame Maps—With a Twist

Mirages are “imperfect” reflections of an Endgame Map. That imperfection is the opportunity.

Mechanics like Strongboxes, Blights, Legions, and Ultimatums can reappear—but altered:

  • Legions may spawn different factions.
  • Strongboxes can change types.
  • Blights may feature Afarud-infested lanes.
  • Kalguuran Ore can transform into a Thaumaturgic Hourglass.
  • Ultimatums gain dangerous new modifiers like Restless Ground or Quicksand.

New rewards include:

  • Sinistral and Dextral Catalysts (boost jewellery modifier effectiveness)
  • Cord Belt base type (anointable with Passive Tree notables)
  • Massive Thaumaturgic Dust payouts

The Mirage system makes Path of Exile Mirage a playground for risk-reward experimentation.

New Endgame Boss: Saresh, of the Weeping Black

Pushing back against the Afarud will eventually draw the attention of Saresh, of the Weeping Black, a new pinnacle-tier boss encounter.

Defeating Saresh rewards powerful exclusive Unique items, raising the stakes for high-end farming strategies in Path of Exile Mirage.

Restore Corrupted Relics

The Afarud have twisted Maraketh artifacts into corrupted Unique items. Inside Mirages, players can earn a Coin of Restoration, allowing Varashta to restore these items to their original form.

For example:

  • Fleshrender can be restored into Skysunder, a radiant Maraketh weapon that reflects Ignite back onto the bearer and proliferates fire damage in massive areas.

This restoration system adds lore depth and powerful chase items to Path of Exile Mirage.

Massive Atlas & Endgame Overhaul

The endgame sees its most structural shift since War for the Atlas.

Maps Are No Longer Area-Locked

  • No more fixed map bases like Mesa Map.
  • Players now find generic tiered maps (e.g., Tier 10 Map).
  • Choose layouts directly from the Atlas.
  • Start from the center of the Atlas.
  • All Unique Maps now appear on the Atlas.
  • Up to 10 Atlas Skill Points available via Unique Map completions.

This dramatically improves flexibility for both focused farming and variety runners in Path of Exile Mirage.

Shaped Regions & Arcane Astrolabes

Eagon’s Arcane Astrolabes allow players to trace Zana’s movements and manifest Shaped Regions:

  • Entire regions can become Abyssal, Blighted, or mechanic-enhanced.
  • Completing maps strengthens remaining ones.
  • Finishing a full region unlocks Memory Vault rewards:
    • Arkhon’s Vault (Unique Items)
    • Zealot’s Vault (Currency)

A new Atlas Keystone, Synthesised Stability, supports single-map farming strategies.

Endgame System Reworks

Major changes in Path of Exile Mirage include:

  • Removal of Cartographer’s Chisels and Map Device Crafts
  • Global bonuses from Voidstones
  • New Originator Voidstone
  • T17 maps removed
  • Improved or replaced frustrating map modifiers
  • Tradeable Memory Threads
  • New Scarabs:
    • Expedition Scarab of Infusion
    • Anarchy Scarab of the Exceptional
    • Beyond Scarab of Resurgence

Atlas Passives also receive buffs, including:

  • Pillage and Plunder (Fractured Veiled Mod drops)
  • The Paths Not Taken Keystone (doubles Divination Cards but obscures possible drops)

Exceptional Supports Replace Awakened Gems

Awakened Supports are out. Exceptional Supports are in.

Defeating Incarnations of Fear, Neglect, and Dread grants the Originator Voidstone—unlocking 40+ new Exceptional Supports.

Examples include:

  • Hextoad Support (King in the Mists)
  • Voidstorm Support (Uber Elder)
  • Frostmage Support (Incarnation of Neglect)

Unlike Awakened Gems, Exceptional Supports fundamentally transform gameplay rather than offering simple stat boosts.

This marks one of the biggest mechanical shifts in Path of Exile Mirage.

Keepers of the Flame Goes Core

The Keepers system replaces Breach as a core mechanic.

  • Encounter Ailith and the Hiveborn starting Act 6 (Mud Flats)
  • Unlock the Genesis Tree (fully grown by default)
  • Full Atlas and Scarab integration
  • New Notables and Keystones

Graft items are removed but reborn through Exceptional Supports like:

  • Hiveborn Support
  • Foulgrasp Support

Quality of Life Improvements

Path of Exile Mirage also delivers meaningful QoL upgrades:

  • Favourite trades added to Currency Exchange
  • Access Stash while UI is open
  • Hoverable trade sale histories
  • Divination Cards auto-grant rewards
  • 20+ new campaign landmarks and optional encounters

Supporter Packs, Vault Pass & Challenge Rewards

Launching alongside the expansion on March 7, players can:

  • Earn exclusive cosmetic rewards via Mirage challenges
  • Purchase new Supporter Packs
  • Unlock cosmetics and bonuses through the Vault Pass
