The rhythm-action roguelike Ratatan is about to get darker—and deeper. Developer Ratata Arts, alongside publisher Game Source Entertainment, has officially announced a major Steam Early Access update titled Descent of the Dark Ratatan, launching on December 25, 2025.
This content-rich update marks the next major milestone in Ratatan’s Early Access journey, introducing a brand-new chapter, challenging enemies, expanded multiplayer features, and high-rarity loot designed to reward mastery and experimentation.
A New Chapter Descends Into Darkness
At the core of the Descent of the Dark Ratatan update is the introduction of Chapter Two, which becomes available after players complete World 5. This new chapter expands Ratatan’s world with fresh environments, tougher encounters, and new rhythm-based gameplay challenges that push timing and strategy to the limit.
For returning players, Chapter Two represents a significant escalation in difficulty and depth—perfect for those seeking the next big test.
Face Powerful Dark Ratatan Battles
The update also introduces Dark Ratatan Battles, where players command Dark Cobuns against high-level bosses with unique mechanics. These encounters demand precise rhythm execution and clever use of abilities, offering some of the most intense battles Ratatan has delivered so far.
Each boss brings distinct patterns and challenges, reinforcing Ratatan’s identity as a rhythm game that rewards skill and adaptability.
Duo Ratakaruta Adds Strategic Depth
A new system called Duo Ratakaruta adds another layer of strategy. When multiple elemental attributes reach specific thresholds, players can unlock powerful Duo Ratakaruta combinations. These synergized abilities encourage experimentation with builds and reward players who carefully balance their elemental powers.
Goddess Gacha Introduces Smarter Progression
The update debuts the Goddess Gacha, a new feature that allows players to exchange unwanted weapons, accessories, and items for points. These points can then be used to spin for new rewards, including a chance at limited items.
This system offers a more flexible and player-friendly way to manage inventory while keeping progression rewarding and exciting.
Multiplayer Improvements and Legendary Accessories
Multiplayer also receives notable upgrades in Descent of the Dark Ratatan. Players can now join random rooms more easily, refresh room lists faster, and enjoy a more stable and responsive matchmaking experience thanks to lobby optimizations.
On the loot side, Legendary Accessories make their debut as a new rarity tier. These items feature random Decorune Effects, adding powerful modifiers and further customization options for advanced builds.
