Selangor Red Giants and Homebois Secure MPL Malaysia Playoff Spots

SRG's Gold Laner, John "Innocent" Vincent Banal, beams on stage after his second Savage of the season earns him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Match against JP.

The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Malaysia (MPL Malaysia) Season 15 just witnessed a seismic shift in the esports landscape as Selangor Red Giants OG Esports (SRG) and Homebois (HB) became the first teams to qualify for the Playoffs. Week 4, dubbed Minggu Diraja (Royal Week), also shattered the league’s Regular Season peak viewership record — a staggering 497,877 concurrent viewers — thanks to a headline clash between SRG and AERO Esports.

The intense Week 4 action also marked the signing of a historic partnership between MOONTON Games and the Malaysia Esports Federation (MESF), further cementing Malaysia’s esports rise ahead of the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand this December.

Red Giants Keep the MPL Malaysia Crown in Sight

Defending champions SRG had a rollercoaster start to Week 4. On May 9, they were shocked by AERO Esports, dropping their first game of the season after previously boasting a spotless 8-0 record. However, true to form, the two-time champs dug deep to pull off a reverse sweep, taking the series 2-1.

SRG sealed their playoff berth on May 11 with a decisive 2-0 win over JP Niners. Gold Laner John “Innocent” Vincent Banal delivered a clinical performance, earning his second Savage of the season and third overall — a league record. His monstrous display earned him MVP honors yet again, solidifying his position as one of the league’s deadliest carries.

“We’ve been putting in the work. Dropping a game doesn’t mean we’re falling off — it means others are stepping up,” Innocent said post-match.

AERO Esports Soar on Hazle’s MPL Malaysia Debut

Although AERO fell short against SRG, all eyes were on Muhammad “Hazle” Praba Balakosa, the 18-year-old Indonesian Jungler on loan from MPL ID giants RRQ Hoshi. Making his highly anticipated debut, Hazle stunned fans with a 10/2/8 Hayabusa performance, leading AERO to take a game off the unbeaten champs and securing a dominant 2-0 victory over JP Niners the following day.

His display didn’t just win matches—it made history. The SRG vs AERO match drew nearly half a million viewers, doubling the previous MPL MY viewership record (262,061 PCV in Season 14).

“Hazle played like a veteran. He adapted instantly and added firepower to our squad. He’s the X-factor,” said AERO’s head coach.

Homebois Make a Statement

Not to be outdone, Homebois swept through Todak and Team Vamos in clean 2-0 wins. Critics had questioned HB’s early-season form due to weaker opponents, but Week 4 proved otherwise. Their dominant win over Todak—Malaysia’s representatives for the IESF World Esports Championship—made their intentions clear.

Star Gold Laner Adam “Melqt” Hamidun backed it up with numbers: 15.8 KDA and 4,027 Damage Per Minute (DPM), outpacing even Innocent in both stats.

“We’re gunning for Riyadh,” said Melqt. “Our eyes are on the MSC stage at Esports World Cup 2025.”

Both SRG and HB now sit joint top of the standings with 17 points each, with AERO not far behind at 10.

MOONTON x MESF Join Forces for SEA Games Glory

In a major development off the battlefield, MOONTON Games and MESF signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on May 10 to strengthen Malaysia’s Mobile Legends national teams ahead of the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

MOONTON will provide financial, technical, and promotional support, ensuring both men’s and women’s teams are primed for regional dominance.

“Our goal is simple—Gold at SEA Games and glory at IESF,” said Muhammad Naim Al-Amin, President of MESF.
“We’re building Malaysia as Southeast Asia’s esports hub,” added Fikri Rizal Mahruddin, Malaysia Esports Lead at MOONTON Games.

Week 5 Preview: A Clash of Titans Looms

MPL Malaysia

MPL MY Week 5 (May 16–18) is set to culminate in a blockbuster clash on Seru Saturday (May 17), where SRG and HB face off in a top-of-the-table showdown. With both teams unbeaten, only one will emerge as the true top seed heading into the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Team Vamos and JP Niners look to bounce back in a must-win battle on Day 3. Fans will also be watching for roster changes, with 16-year-old prodigy Danish “Error 404” Tahqif possibly making his debut for Vamos amid criticism toward veteran Jungler Chibi.
