1047 Games has just announced the open alpha for Splitgate 2, the highly anticipated sequel to their portal-jumping FPS. The open alpha will be available from February 27 to March 2, 2025, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This alpha introduces a host of new features, including 24-player matches, new game modes, maps, and more.
Featured in the PlayStation State of Play showcase, Splitgate 2 promises to expand on the original game’s vision and scale. Players can look forward to the first-ever crossplay showdowns, offering a glimpse into the futuristic sport that defines Splitgate 2. The new trailer highlights the dark narrative, wacky weaponry, and terrifying enemies that await players as they fight their way to the top of the Twisted Tower.
The open alpha includes several exciting new features:
- 24-Player Multi-Team Experience: Engage in three-team 8v8v8 matches for the biggest battles yet. Multi-Team Portal Warfare combines portal movement with expansive playfields, offering numerous opportunities to outmaneuver opponents. Playable modes include Multi-Team Domination and Multi-Team Hotzone.
- New Game Modes: Splitball combines Capture the Flag with Halo’s Oddball, challenging players to master both offense and defense. Firecracker enhances the traditional Search & Destroy mode with respawns, allowing attacking teams to ignite a firecracker and fill the sky with fireworks.
- New Maps: Glacier, a massive frozen battleground, is perfect for Multi-Team Portal Warfare. Bypass, the most vertical map yet, features a tranquil park with cafés, gondolas, and a planetarium. Eden, packed with portal walls, offers endless opportunities for flanking and dominating opponents.
- Weapons and Gear: The game features eight unique primary and secondary weapons across three factions, nine pieces of equipment, and tide-turning power weapons. Returning classics like Team Deathmatch and Hotzone have been improved based on community feedback.
Splitgate 2 is the revolutionary follow-up to the 2021 hit Splitgate, which garnered 22 million downloads and critical acclaim.
