RuneScape: Dragonwilds takes a dark and ambitious leap forward with Fellhollow, its first major free update, now available to all players in Steam Early Access. This massive expansion introduces a haunting new region shaped by decay, alongside new quests, enemies, survival systems, farming, mounts, and a cinematic boss encounter that pushes the Kuldra Saga into its next chapter.
Designed to challenge how players explore, fight, and endure, Fellhollow is a bold evolution of the survival adventure—one where death itself becomes your guide.
A New Region Consumed by Wither Rot
Fellhollow is a surreal land caught between life and death. Shrouded in mist and corruption, the region features dead forests, withered vegetation, haunted ruins, and valleys steeped in supernatural decay. At the heart of this corruption lies Wither Rot, a spreading blight that reshapes both the environment and the player experience.
As players push deeper into Fellhollow, they must contend with rot-afflicted enemies, dangerous environmental hazards, and new survival pressures that demand adaptability and strategic planning.
Death Arrives as a Guide and Questgiver
For the first time in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, Death takes center stage as a fully realized questgiver and guide. Acting as your companion through Fellhollow, Death draws players into a darker narrative filled with loss, transformation, and unfinished duty.
This storyline continues the Kuldra Saga, weaving lore-driven quests into the region’s exploration and culminating in one of the game’s most ambitious encounters yet.
Soul Rift: A High-Risk Survival Mechanic
Central to Fellhollow’s gameplay is Soul Rift, a powerful new status effect caused by prolonged exposure to Wither Rot. Soul Rift fundamentally alters exploration, combat, and survival, forcing players to decide how much corruption they are willing to endure.
Players can craft new armor sets and consumables using Fellhollow-exclusive materials to resist or manage the rot. However, those willing to walk the edge are rewarded with two potent effects:
- Rift Sight – Reveals hidden paths, spectral doors, and secrets invisible to the living
- Imaru’s Gaze – A dangerous ability that attracts the attention of Fellhollow’s apex predator
Mastering Soul Rift becomes a delicate balance between power and peril.
Face Imaru, the Soul Eater
Once the guardian dragon of Fellhollow, Imaru has been twisted by grief into a soul-devouring monstrosity. Known as Imaru, the Soul Eater, this corrupted dragon stands as the region’s ultimate threat.
Players will face Imaru in an epic, multi-phase boss encounter that blends narrative, spectacle, and mechanical challenge. As Death seeks a champion capable of breaking Imaru’s curse, this battle serves as a defining moment in RuneScape: Dragonwilds’ evolving story.
Farming Skill Debuts in Dragonwilds
Fellhollow also introduces the long-awaited Farming Skill to RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Inspired by RuneScape’s iconic farming roots, this system has been reimagined with a magical survival-focused twist.
From the early stages of the game, players can grow resources infused with sorcery, reinforcing farming as a core pillar of progression rather than a late-game activity.
Explore in Style with Mounts
Exploration gets a major upgrade with the introduction of mounts. Launching alongside Fellhollow, mounts allow players to traverse the dangerous world of Dragonwilds with greater speed and flair.
The first mount, the Terrorbird, is available to unlock through a dedicated Fellhollow questline, offering both practical benefits and a nostalgic nod to RuneScape veterans.
A Strong Start to Dragonwilds’ 2026 Roadmap
Fellhollow marks the beginning of a steady flow of major content updates planned throughout 2026. Additional regions, systems, and story expansions are already in development, signaling a robust future for RuneScape: Dragonwilds as it continues its Early Access journey.
