The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is about to get a villainous makeover. The Pokémon Company International has announced the “Scarlet & Violet—Destined Rivals” expansion, launching May 30th, 2025, bringing the infamous Team Rocket into the fray.
This expansion marks the return of the popular Trainer’s Pokémon mechanic, but with a twist. Players can choose their allegiance, siding with heroic duos like Ethan and Ho-Oh ex or Cynthia and Garchomp ex, or embracing the chaotic energy of Team Rocket, teaming up with Mewtwo ex under Giovanni’s command.
“Scarlet & Violet—Destined Rivals” features new Trainer’s Pokémon cards, showcasing the special bond between Trainers and their Pokémon through unique artwork. Cards prominently feature the Trainer’s name, adding a personal touch to the gameplay.




Key highlights of the expansion include:
- 83 new Team Rocket tagged cards.
- 17 Pokémon ex, including 10 Trainer’s Pokémon ex.
- 23 illustration rare Pokémon.
- 11 special illustration rare Pokémon.
- Six hyper rare gold-etched cards.
Players can find “Scarlet & Violet—Destined Rivals” in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, and various collections at participating retailers worldwide.
For those eager to play before the official launch, Prerelease tournaments will be held at participating independent retailers beginning May 17th, 2025, as part of the Play! Pokémon program.
Digital players can also experience the expansion early, with “Scarlet & Violet—Destined Rivals” available on the Pokémon TCG Live app (iOS, Android, macOS, Windows) starting May 29th, 2025. Players can collect and battle with the new cards and receive in-game bonuses upon logging in.
