The cult-favorite paranormal adventure series is officially back, as Spooky Doorway and Akupara Games unveiled The Darkside Detective: Backside of the Moon during the 2025 Unity Awards. After a much-needed (and slightly chaotic) sabbatical, Detective McQueen and Officer Dooley are returning to Twin Lakes—mimosas postponed, sunbathing canceled, and supernatural chaos fully resumed.
A New Chapter in Twin Lakes’ Strangest Saga
Announced on December 9, 2025, the newest installment marks a vibrant comeback for the duo whose brand of deadpan humor and cosmic weirdness helped define modern point-and-click adventures. According to Spooky Doorway, McQueen still refuses to sleep, and someone is apparently trying to get him on Melatonin “god help us it works,” setting the tone for yet another absurdly charming journey into the unknown.
In Backside of the Moon, players will follow six entirely new cases, each filled with offbeat mysteries, bizarre entities, and the kind of supernatural nonsense only Twin Lakes could contain. While the devs tease a Van Helsing-style flair, they claim there won’t be any vampires—“that we know of”—suggesting even they aren’t fully certain what lurks beyond the veil this time.
Expect encounters with werewolves, cursed relics, occult rituals, lost treasures, and the most horrifying threat of all: the ultra-wealthy. As always, players will gather clues, jab at suspicious objects, combine silly items, and delightfully over-click everything that moves—classic Darkside Detective energy.
New Mysteries, Same Delightfully Chaotic Detectives
With more than 20 solved cases under their belt, you might think Twin Lakes would finally enjoy some peace. But as the team warns, “that’s not how crime works, rookie.” Six new mind-bending mysteries are on the way—just as soon as they figure out how to remove the mustard packed inside Dooley’s gun.
Fans can now wishlist The Darkside Detective: Backside of the Moon on Steam, ensuring they’re first in line when McQueen and Dooley make their grand return to the eerie, the uncanny, and the outright absurd.
