A deeply emotional narrative adventure is arriving soon on PC. Indie developer Lunacy Studios has officially confirmed that The House of Hikmah will launch on April 8, 2026 via Steam, offering players a story-driven experience centered on grief, healing, and legacy.
The upcoming release stands out not only for its emotional storytelling but also for its unique inspiration drawn from the Islamic Golden Age — a setting rarely explored in modern video games.
A Powerful Story About Grief, Healing, and Legacy
In The House of Hikmah, players follow Maya, a 14-year-old girl searching for answers after the loss of her father. Her journey takes place inside a mystical version of the legendary House of Wisdom, where reality bends and memories take physical form.
The game focuses heavily on emotional storytelling, with a narrative that explores how grief can shape a person’s life while also offering a hopeful path toward healing. Along the way, Maya encounters a mysterious force known as the Widow — a symbolic representation of unresolved grief that players must overcome as the story progresses.
Explore a Mystical World Inspired by the Islamic Golden Age
One of the most unique aspects of the game is its setting. The House of Hikmah invites players to explore nine distinct worlds, each inspired by historical scholars from the Islamic Golden Age.
Each world reflects a different field of knowledge, allowing players to meet scholars whose stories are tied directly to Maya’s emotional journey. The result is a narrative adventure that blends historical inspiration with a fantastical, dreamlike setting.
Puzzle Gameplay Powered by an Ancient Elemental Heirloom
Gameplay in The House of Hikmah centers around physics-based puzzles that use a mysterious heirloom left behind by Maya’s father.
Players will:
- Glide through wind channels
- Manipulate matter to reshape objects
- Traverse massive environments and surreal structures
- Solve puzzles tied directly to Maya’s emotional progression
The focus on environmental storytelling and puzzle mechanics aims to create a slower, more reflective gameplay experience compared to traditional action-driven adventures.
A Team of Industry Veterans Behind the Project
Lunacy Studios includes developers who have worked on major titles such as Life is Strange, Star Wars: Battlefront, Mass Effect, and Assassin’s Creed. The game also features music from Austin Wintory, a BAFTA-winning composer widely recognized for creating emotional game soundtracks.
The project also includes full voice acting in both English and Arabic, making it one of the few narrative games to offer full bilingual localization at launch.
Release Date and Platform Details
The House of Hikmah will be available on PC via Steam, featuring English and Arabic text and voiceover localization.
