Riot Games has officially unveiled Veto, the newest Sentinel joining Valorant’s agent roster. Revealed during the grand finals of Valorant Champions Paris, Veto is set to release on October 7, 2025, bringing a unique playstyle that directly disrupts enemy utility and forces players back to the fundamentals of gunplay.
Hailing from Senegal, Veto is empowered by an unstoppable DNA mutation, transforming him into an enforcer who can shut down enemy abilities and technology with ease. His arrival is poised to shift Valorant’s competitive landscape, making him one of the most anticipated additions of the year.
Veto’s Abilities: Control, Disruption, and Mutation
Veto’s kit is all about dominance through denial. His abilities are designed to counter the utility-heavy meta, giving defenders new tools to hold sites with confidence.
- Chokehold – Deploys a trap that holds enemies in place while inflicting Deafen and Decay effects. Enemies can destroy it before activation, making placement key.
- Crosscut – Places a teleport vortex, allowing Veto to reposition quickly or retreat. Can be reclaimed and redeployed during the Buy Phase for flexibility.
- Interceptor – A gadget that destroys incoming enemy utility, nullifying abilities that would normally bounce or be destroyed by gunfire.
- Evolution (Ultimate) – Veto fully mutates, gaining a combat stim, regeneration, and immunity to all debuffs and ability-based damage. He can shrug off Brimstone’s orbital strike or Raze’s rocket, forcing enemies to rely solely on bullets.
This toolkit cements Veto as a bold, adaptive Sentinel who thrives in high-pressure moments.
Developer Insights: Building Veto’s Identity
According to Nicholas Smith, Valorant Game Designer, the goal behind Veto’s design was clear: create a Sentinel who gives defenders stronger tools to contest sites without relying on retakes.
“Veto’s kit centers on anti-utility, aiming to give players a stronger foothold on defense. He can be played like a traditional Sentinel or more aggressively to create space. His adaptability is his strength,” Smith explained.
Smith also highlighted how Veto’s ultimate ability challenges the current meta:
“Sites are often flooded with utility. With Evolution, Veto can tank a Brimstone ult or eat a Raze rocket and still fight. Even if enemies know he’s ulted, it forces them to rethink their approach.”
Veto’s Gameplay Style: Bold and Adaptive
Veto isn’t a passive agent—he thrives on bold plays and adaptability. His teleport allows him to reposition quickly, while his Interceptor ensures enemy setups don’t go uncontested. Players can either anchor sites traditionally or take proactive control of space with confidence.
His Evolution ultimate embodies his fearless playstyle, allowing players to make game-changing pushes or stand their ground during high-stakes moments.
Agent Gear and Rewards
Alongside Veto’s release, Riot is introducing themed progression rewards through his Agent Gear, which includes sprays, player cards, titles, a gun buddy, and the standout Sheriff skin “Enforcer.”
Highlights include:
- Tier 3 Title: Evolved
- Tier 6 Gun Buddy: Mutagenesis
- Tier 10 Sheriff Skin: Enforcer
These cosmetics underline Veto’s identity as an unrelenting force that reshapes the battlefield.
More Than Just Veto: Skirmish Mode Arrives
Coinciding with Veto’s launch, Riot Games has rolled out Skirmish, a brand-new custom game mode designed for faster, more intense fights. Players can jump into 1v1 to 5v5 close-quarters matches on a new map, removing downtime and putting pure gunplay at the forefront—perfectly complementing Veto’s utility-denying theme.
The Future of Valorant’s Meta
With his ability to shut down abilities, disrupt enemy plans, and survive through overwhelming utility, Veto is expected to reshape how both casual and competitive players approach site control. Whether anchoring defense or spearheading aggressive plays, Veto forces opponents to think twice about relying on ability spam.
Valorant players worldwide will finally be able to test their skills with Veto starting October 7, 2025.
