HoYoverse has announced that Zenless Zone Zero’s Version 2.2 update, titled “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night”, will officially launch on September 4, 2025. The update introduces the Obol Squad, an elite Defense Force faction led by Colonel Isolde under Major General Lorenz, as New Eridu’s fragile balance faces fresh turmoil on the Waifei Peninsula.
Meet the Obol Squad: New Agents and Returning Allies
Version 2.2 will introduce new S-Rank agents, expanding gameplay variety and narrative depth:
- Seed (S-Rank Electric Attack Agent) – A genius mechanic who fights alongside his customized Seed Sr. mecha. Known for overwhelming firepower and synergy with other Attack agents, Seed specializes in boosting sustained DPS.
- Orphie & Magus (S-Rank Fire Attack Agent) – The captain of the Obol Squad, who uses high-powered lasers and coordinated EX Special Attacks to buff allies. Orphie’s “Bottled Heat” system enhances team combat, placing squadmates in the Zeroed In state for amplified damage.
- Mercury (S-Rank Bangboo) – A tank-operating Bangboo who joins the battlefield as durable support.
Returning favorites Trigger (S-Rank Electric Stun Agent) and Evelyn (S-Rank Fire Attack Agent) will also be available, while Soldier 0 – Anby is currently in training for a stronger re-debut in a future version.
New Events: Strategy, Rhythm, and Rewards
Alongside its new characters, Version 2.2 adds fresh limited-time events:
- Band of Brave Bangboo (Tower Defense Mode) – Features new maps, enemies, and mechanics such as camouflage bushes and Miasmic hazards. Clearing stages rewards the A-Rank Excaliboo Bangboo, who deals heavy sword or hammer strikes depending on combat outcomes.
- Rhythm Rave – A rhythm-based mini-game where players sync with classic tracks to earn exclusive rewards.
Enhanced Gameplay Experience
HoYoverse continues refining Zenless Zone Zero with quality-of-life improvements. Proxies can now select Belle or Wise before engaging in companion storylines like Quality Time invites, adding more flexibility to character interactions.
