Crystal of Atlan is turning up the heat with the launch of its latest major update, bringing the The King of Fighters ’98 collaboration and a brand-new Fighter class branch, Sugariff, to the magicpunk MMO Action RPG.
The crossover officially went live following maintenance on August 27, 2026, introducing the iconic ninja Mai Shiranui to the world of Atlan alongside new combat challenges, exclusive cosmetics, limited-time rewards and special events.
For fans of classic fighting games and flashy action RPG combat, the Crystal of Atlan x The King of Fighters ’98 collaboration offers a chance to experience one of KOF’s most recognizable characters in an entirely new setting.
Sugariff Brings Rhythm-Powered Combat to Crystal of Atlan
The biggest permanent addition in the latest Crystal of Atlan update is the Sugariff, a new class branch for the Fighter.
Described as a combatant who turns music into raw destructive power, Sugariff combines rapid punches and powerful kicks with rhythm-based attacks. Her combat style emphasizes fast combos that flow together like a thunderous musical performance.
The new class branch is designed around aggressive close-range combat, giving Fighter players another way to approach battles while maintaining the spectacular action that defines Crystal of Atlan.
Sugariff Explosive Debut Events Are Now Live
To celebrate the arrival of Sugariff, Crystal of Atlan has launched the Explosive Debut series of character growth events.
Players can participate in special activities including Idol Training, Bassdrop Codex, Punk Sonic and Carnival Tour.
These events feature a mixture of quests, team challenges and Bingo games. Completing the activities can reward players with useful progression items such as gear supply boxes, enhancement vouchers, co-op dungeon materials and other character growth resources.
The event structure is designed to help players quickly develop their new Sugariff character and get them ready for more challenging content.
Mai Shiranui Joins the Crystal of Atlan Battlefield
The headline attraction of the crossover is undoubtedly Mai Shiranui, the iconic female ninja from The King of Fighters.
Known for her Shiranui-style ninjutsu, distinctive fighting techniques and unmistakable visual design, Mai arrives in Crystal of Atlan as a combat NPC.
The collaboration allows the classic fighting game character to step into Atlan’s magicpunk world while retaining the signature combat aesthetics associated with The King of Fighters.
Her arrival is part of the limited-time Dancing With Flames collaboration event.
Dancing With Flames Challenges Players to Five Rounds
The Dancing With Flames event officially began on August 27, 2026, following maintenance.
During the event, players can encounter Mai Shiranui and challenge her across five rounds of combat.
Successfully completing the challenges provides several collaboration-exclusive rewards, including a limited Emote, the Flaming Ring aura and the Butterfly Fan accessory.
The event is scheduled to remain available until September 17, 2026, before maintenance begins.
That gives players a limited window to complete the crossover challenges and claim the event rewards.
Mai Shiranui Flaming Butterfly Outfit Arrives
The collaboration also brings a special Mai Shiranui-inspired outfit to Crystal of Atlan.
The Flaming Butterfly clothing set is designed specifically for adult female characters using the Fighter and Musketeer classes.
The outfit combines Mai’s recognizable aesthetic with Crystal of Atlan’s fantasy-meets-technology visual style, creating a crossover look designed for players who want to bring the KOF icon’s style into their own adventures.
The Flaming Butterfly outfit became available through the Flaming Butterfly Bundle following maintenance on August 27.
Mai Shiranui Chibi Pet Gacha Now Available
Players can also add a miniature version of the iconic ninja to their collection.
The limited Mai Shiranui Chibi Pet gacha opened on August 27 and will remain available until October 28, 2026, before maintenance begins.
The pet gives collectors another way to celebrate the collaboration beyond the combat event and exclusive outfit.
With the gacha running significantly longer than the Dancing With Flames event, players have more time to pursue the limited companion.
Crystal of Atlan x The King of Fighters ’98 Rewards
The collaboration brings together combat content and collectible rewards, giving players several reasons to participate.
Key crossover additions include:
- Mai Shiranui as a combat NPC
- Five-round Dancing With Flames combat challenges
- The limited Flaming Ring aura
- Butterfly Fan accessory
- Collaboration-exclusive Emote
- Flaming Butterfly clothing for Fighter and Musketeer characters
- Mai Shiranui Chibi Pet
- Limited-time growth and event rewards
Together, these additions make the crossover one of the more substantial collaborations to arrive in Crystal of Atlan.
