MicroProse Unveils “Dungeon Holdem” — A Bold Fusion of Poker, Dungeon Crawling, and Deckbuilding Strategy

Dungeon Holdem

MicroProse has officially announced Dungeon Holdem, a thrilling new title that merges the strategy of poker with the intensity of dungeon crawling and deckbuilding RPG mechanics. This daring hybrid, set to arrive soon on PC, invites players to master their hands not just for the pot—but for survival.

Every Hand is a Battle

In Dungeon Holdem, every draw can turn the tide. Players will use poker hands to launch attacks, trigger powerful combos, and bend the traditional rules of the game to their advantage. Stacking hands multiplies damage output, allowing a single turn to cascade into a devastating assault. The fusion of chance and tactics makes every decision matter—every card, a potential weapon.

Players start their journey as either a Warrior or Wizard, each offering distinct playstyles and upgrade paths. As the game progresses, hundreds of unlockable skills allow for deep deck customization. Between runs, players can buy or sell abilities to fine-tune their build and adapt their strategy to face increasingly dangerous foes.

Monsters, Combos, and Strategic Depth

Descending through the procedurally generated dungeon means facing off against over 20 unique monsters, each with distinct mechanics like regeneration, resistances, and debilitating status effects. Victory depends on how players balance risk and reward—whether to push their luck or play it safe.

Between battles, adventurers can:
🂡 Buy new abilities to expand their deck
🂢 Upgrade hand power for stronger poker combos
🂣 Unlock deck effects such as suit bonuses or draw boosts
🂤 Trim unwanted cards to improve hand odds and efficiency

With more than 100 abilities, 30 consumables, 20 passive upgrades, and 10 progression paths, Dungeon Holdem promises virtually endless replayability and deep tactical variety.

Poker Meets Roguelike Adventure

By blending poker’s tension and unpredictability with roguelike structure and RPG customization, Dungeon Holdem captures the essence of MicroProse’s legacy: games built around tactics, creativity, and risk management. Every encounter tests not only your skill with cards but your ability to strategize under pressure.

About the Visionaries Behind the Game

The creative direction of Dungeon Holdem comes from James Destined, a veteran of interactive learning and digital innovation. Before turning to game development, Destined led award-winning projects at the Powerhouse Museum, including the Mars Lab rover program and Australia’s first virtual reality escape room. His previous game, Mighty Marbles, showcased his flair for blending physics-based design with imaginative gameplay—a passion that continues with Dungeon Holdem.

The MicroProse Legacy Continues

Founded in 1982, MicroProse has long been a powerhouse in simulation and strategy gaming, with legendary titles like Falcon, B-17 The Mighty Eighth, HighFleet, Gunship, and Ground Branch. Today, the studio continues to honor its history while forging ahead with innovative, genre-defying experiences—Dungeon Holdem being the latest example of that spirit.

Players can expect more details about Dungeon Holdem’s release in the coming months.
