Following another record-breaking showing at the Esports World Cup 2026, MOONTON Games has revealed the slot allocation framework for M8, the eighth edition of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang M Series. The tournament will make its European debut in Istanbul, Türkiye, in January 2027, marking another major milestone in the game’s rapidly expanding international esports scene.
The announcement comes after MLBB once again established itself as a dominant force at EWC, becoming the event’s most-watched esports title for the third consecutive edition with a peak concurrent viewership of 2.89 million, according to Esports Charts.
MLBB M8 World Championship Expands the Road to the Global Stage
The M8 World Championship is set to build on MLBB’s growing international footprint by creating more opportunities for teams from different regions to qualify for the game’s biggest tournament.
At the center of the new qualification framework is MLBB’s expanded five-region global esports structure, covering:
- Southeast Asia (SEA)
- Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA)
- Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA)
- East Asia (EA)
- Americas (AMER)
The structure is designed to connect MLBB’s established franchised leagues with emerging regional competitions and new pathways to the M Series.
For aspiring teams, the changes could make the journey to the world championship more accessible while giving developing regions a stronger presence on the international stage.
M8 Wild Card Expands to 10 Teams
One of the biggest changes for M8 is the expansion of the M8 Wild Card.
Taking place in Bangkok, Thailand, the Wild Card stage will feature a record 10 teams, up from eight teams at M7. These teams will compete for three places in the 16-team M8 Main Stage.
That represents a significant expansion from the previous edition, where only two Wild Card teams advanced to the main tournament.
The larger field gives more regional competitors a chance to fight their way into the world’s biggest MLBB tournament while making the Wild Card stage an even more important part of the M8 journey.
MLBB Championship Tour Joins the M Series Pathway
M8 will also introduce another major change to the qualification ecosystem.
For the first time, the MLBB Championship Tour (MCT) will feed directly into the M Series.
Introduced in 2026, the MCT adds another layer to MLBB’s competitive structure and is designed to strengthen regional competition while giving emerging players and teams more opportunities to establish themselves.
Together with the expanded Wild Card, the MCT provides additional routes for teams to progress from regional competition to the global stage.

Team Spirit Makes MLBB History at EWC 2026
The expanded M8 pathway follows a breakthrough year for teams outside Southeast Asia.
At the Esports World Cup 2026, Team Spirit from the EECA region defeated Myanmar’s Yangon Galacticos 4–3 in the MLBB Mid Season Cup Grand Final.
The victory made Team Spirit the first team from outside Southeast Asia to win an official international MLBB major, providing an early example of the competitive growth that MOONTON Games hopes to encourage through its expanded regional structure.
The achievement came during MLBB’s third consecutive appearance as a mainstay title at the Esports World Cup.
The 2026 edition was also notable for the international debut of both the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) and the rebranded MLBB Women’s International (MWI) in Europe.
MLBB Continues to Break Mobile Esports Records
The M8 announcement follows a period of major growth for MLBB esports.
According to Esports Charts, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has held the world record for the most-watched mobile esports title since 2021. The game has also reached 1.5 billion installations and 110 million monthly active users, demonstrating the scale of its global player base.
Earlier in 2026, the M7 World Championship set another major milestone by becoming the most-watched mobile esports tournament in history, reaching more than 5.68 million peak concurrent viewers, according to Esports Charts.
