MOONTON Games, the studio behind the global mobile esports phenomenon Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), has been honored with the prestigious Paragon Award at the 3rd Women in Professional Sports Awards. The ceremony, held on September 26 at Okada Manila, celebrated trailblazers and organizations making significant contributions to professional sports in the Philippines.
This year’s theme, “FILIPINAS: Perlas ng Silangan, Tanglaw ng Kinabukasan” (“Pearl of the Orient, Light of the Future”), highlighted women’s achievements and leadership across different sporting fields. Among the honorees, MOONTON Games stood out as the only game developer and publisher recognized at the event.
Recognition for Inclusive Esports Initiatives
Presented by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), the award recognized MOONTON’s role in building a more inclusive esports landscape and empowering women in competitive gaming. GAB Chairman Atty. Francisco J. Rivera praised the company, saying, “Congratulations to MOONTON Games. Your achievement is well-recognized, and may you continue what you’re doing for women in esports. You are contributing greatly to the development of esports in the country.”
Building Opportunities for Women in MLBB
Earlier this year, MOONTON launched the Athena League, a dedicated platform for women aspiring to compete professionally in MLBB. The league served as the official qualifier for the MLBB Women’s Invitational (MWI), which took place during the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in July. Philippine representatives Team Liquid PH and NAVI PH earned 4th and 5th place finishes, proving the country’s growing strength in women’s esports.
Lee Viloria, PH Esports Head of Business Development and Partnerships at MOONTON Games, emphasized the company’s mission: “Our commitment has always been to create a pathway to an inclusive esports ecosystem. This recognition inspires us to continue supporting women as they take their rightful place in shaping the future of esports.”
Industry-Wide Support
The Philippine Esports Organization (PESO) also commended MOONTON’s win. Executive Director Marlon Marcelo said, “This recognition highlights your dedication in nurturing a more inclusive environment for women in esports. MOONTON Games has genuinely succeeded in engaging our talented women gamers, giving them the chance to shine locally and globally.”
Looking Ahead: SEA Games 2025
The Philippines is gearing up to field its SIBOL MLBB Women’s Team at the upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian Games this December in Bangkok, Thailand. The roster will feature NAVI PH’s core five, with Team Liquid PH’s Clarisse Nicole Cordova joining as the sixth player. Their participation is another testament to the momentum of women’s esports in the region.
With the Paragon Award now under its belt, MOONTON Games continues to reinforce its role as a driving force for diversity and inclusion in esports—empowering women to lead the next chapter of competitive gaming in the Philippines and beyond.
