Selangor Red Giants Dominate Homebois as Playoffs Race Heats Up in MPL Malaysia Week 5

MPL Malaysia

The Regular Season of MPL Malaysia Season 15 is entering its final stretch, and the Playoffs picture is coming into sharper focus. Following an explosive Week 5, just three Playoffs slots remain, with AERO Esports, Team Vamos (VMS), DX Soul (DXS), and Todak (TDK) locked in a tense four-way showdown for the last remaining tickets.

The two teams already safely in the Playoffs—Selangor Red Giants OG Esports (SRG) and Homebois (HB)—squared off in a highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash that quickly turned into a one-sided spectacle. SRG crushed HB in a clean sweep, solidifying their place as league leaders and sending a strong message to the rest of the field.

Selangor Red Giants Crush Homebois to Take Top Spot

In the battle of the undefeated, SRG brought an avalanche of momentum that overwhelmed Homebois in every game of their Best-of-Three series. From the outset, it was clear SRG came prepared, dominating Game 1 with a 12,000 Gold lead and maintaining full control until the final Nexus fell.

In a post-match interview, SRG’s head coach Michael “Arcadia” Bocado remained focused:

“We’re taking things step by step. Our first goal was to qualify for the Playoffs. The second was to secure an Upper Bracket spot. Being number one is a bonus—but it motivates us to work even harder.”

Monster Vicious Locks In, Ocean Black Gets Relegated

Monster Vicious (MV) was the only other squad in Week 5 to officially clinch a Playoffs spot, earning back-to-back 2-0 victories against Ocean Black (OB) and Team Rey (TR). These wins catapulted them into third place, leapfrogging AERO in the standings.

The loss against MV sealed Ocean Black’s fate, marking them as the first team relegated to the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Academy League Malaysia (MAL MY). OB has yet to win a single match this season after seven straight defeats.

DX Soul Makes History as SkyZED Claims Double Savage

DX Soul kept their postseason hopes alive with gritty 2-1 victories over both Todak and Team Rey, but it was rising star Muhammad “SkyZED” bin Mohd Ghazali who stole the spotlight.

SkyZED etched his name into MPL Malaysia history by recording back-to-back Savage kills—the first player in league history to do so. A Savage is the pinnacle of individual performance in MLBB, requiring a player to eliminate all five enemies in quick succession.

This heroic performance is even more impressive considering that DXS only joined MPL Malaysia this season, making their run a testament to the depth of talent emerging from MAL MY.

Note on the Season 15 Regular Season Tiebreaker:

  • During the Regular Season, teams are ranked based on Live Points; these are earned based on the results of each team’s Best-Of-Three matches. A 2-0 win earns teams three points; a 2-1 win earns them two points; a 1-2 loss earns teams one point; a 0-2 loss earns teams zero points.
  • If multiple teams are tied and are unable to determine the winner through Live Points ranking, the tied teams will be ranked by their Aggregate Points, determined by their number of winning games. Teams get one point for winning a game and deducted one point for losing a game.
  • The next tiebreaker will be the head-to-head record of the tied teams.

What to Expect in Week 6 (May 23–25)

Week 6 will set the tone for the postseason, with Upper Bracket slots and relegation survival on the line. Two distinct battles will unfold:

🔥 Playoffs Contenders

  • AERO vs MV (May 23) — A pivotal clash with major Upper Bracket implications. MV must sweep both AERO and HB to end the Regular Season with 21 Live Points and a possible Top 2 finish.
  • VMS vs AERO (May 24) — A duel of next-gen talent featuring 16-year-old Danish “Error 404” Tahqif (VMS) vs 18-year-old Muhammad “Hazle” Praba Balakosa (AERO), on loan from RRQ Hoshi.

⚠️ Relegation Scrap

  • JP Niners (JP) vs TR (May 25) — A do-or-die match to avoid finishing ninth. The loser risks being relegated via a promotion/relegation match against the second-placed MAL MY team.

🎯 Todak’s Last Stand

  • TDK must win against JP on May 25 to have a fighting chance at making the Playoffs. As one of Malaysia’s oldest esports organizations, this match is crucial for preserving their legacy.
