Team Spirit has etched its name into esports history after capturing the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) 2026 title at the Esports World Cup (EWC) in Paris, becoming the first team from outside Southeast Asia to win an official international MLBB major tournament.

Representing the Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) region, Team Spirit completed one of the most remarkable tournament runs in MLBB history by defeating Myanmar’s Yangon Galacticos in a thrilling 4-3 Grand Final on August 1. The seven-game showdown delivered one of the most memorable championship matches in recent years and earned Team Spirit the tournament’s USD 1 million grand prize.
The victory also marked several historic firsts. It was the first time the Mid Season Cup was hosted in Europe and the first occasion that an international MLBB championship was claimed by a team outside Southeast Asia.
For years, countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia dominated the global MLBB scene. Team Spirit’s triumph signals a dramatic shift in the competitive balance, proving that elite talent has emerged across the globe.
Emerging Regions Rewrite the Competitive Landscape
MSC 2026 became one of the tournament’s most unpredictable editions as traditional powerhouses struggled to keep pace with rising international contenders.
Defending champions Team Liquid Philippines were eliminated during the Group Stage, while 2024 champions Selangor Red Giants also exited earlier than expected. Meanwhile, Team Spirit showcased remarkable consistency throughout the playoffs, sweeping Malaysia’s Team Vamos before eliminating Indonesia’s ONIC to secure its place in the Grand Finals.
Although ONIC recovered to defeat Team Falcons PH 3-0 in the Third Place Match, the tournament ultimately belonged to Team Spirit, making EECA only the fourth region ever to lift the prestigious MSC trophy alongside the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

The Esports World Cup Foundation also praised MLBB’s continued rise on the international stage.
Fabian Scheuermann, Chief Games Officer of the Esports Foundation, emphasized that the tournament demonstrated mobile esports’ growing worldwide appeal.

He also noted that Team Spirit’s championship and Team Vitality’s successful defense of the MLBB Women’s International title showcased Europe’s importance in MLBB’s expanding esports ecosystem.

EXP Laner Kid Bomba earned the Finals MVP award after delivering exceptional frontline performances throughout the championship series, while 16-year-old jungler zauregoist impressed audiences worldwide with his aggressive assassin gameplay.
Reflecting on the historic victory, Kid Bomba credited the team’s preparation and international scrimmages for their success.
“We deserved this win because of the work we put in. We trained hard, prepared well, and made the most of our bootcamp in Malaysia. We had scrimmages with Asian teams which helped us.”
He also shared that having his mother witness the championship victory made the achievement even more meaningful.
MSC 2026 Sets New Viewership Records
Beyond the competition itself, MSC 2026 also became the most-watched tournament at this year’s Esports World Cup.
According to Esports Charts, the tournament reached:

- 45.2 million Hours Watched
- 511,357 Average Concurrent Viewers
Community broadcasts also played a larger role than ever before, accounting for 34% of total tournament viewership. Community caster Zay Casting Channel ranked among the event’s three most-watched channels after generating over 3.2 million Hours Watched, highlighting the growing influence of creator-driven esports coverage.
“Two Champions, One Game” Strengthens MLBB’s Global Esports Vision
MSC 2026 also represented the third consecutive appearance of MLBB at the Esports World Cup under the banner of “Two Champions, One Game.”
Alongside the Mid Season Cup, the tournament featured the newly rebranded MLBB Women’s International (MWI), reinforcing MOONTON Games’ commitment to providing equal opportunities for both men’s and women’s competition on the world’s biggest esports stage.
The women’s championship has now evolved into a fully established global tournament, further strengthening MLBB’s international esports ecosystem.
MLBB Continues Expanding Beyond Southeast Asia
Team Spirit’s championship serves as the strongest evidence yet that MOONTON Games’ international expansion strategy is working.
Earlier this year, the publisher announced plans to broaden MLBB’s global footprint through several major initiatives, including the game’s inclusion in the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, as well as bringing the M8 World Championship Finals to Istanbul, Türkiye.
The expansion will continue later this year with the inaugural Esports Nations Cup 2026, where Mobile Legends: Bang Bang will feature 16 national teams competing in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from November 23 to 29.
