The highly anticipated visual novel, The Hungry Lamb: Traveling in the Late Ming Dynasty, is set to make its debut on the Nintendo Switch on March 13th. This dark and morally complex game, developed by Zerocreation Games and published by 2P Games, has already captivated over one million players worldwide. The game’s success in China, where it ranks second in indie sales just behind Black Myth: Wukong, has prompted the announcement of a sequel, The Weeping Swan: Ten Days of the City’s Fall, slated for release in Q4 2025.
Set against the backdrop of the Great Tianqi Explosion, The Hungry Lamb follows the story of Liang, a man shattered by the chaos and bloodshed of a country in turmoil. As he turns to a life of crime, Liang is hired to escort four young girls to a powerful lord, only to discover that the nobleman is a monstrous swine demon preying on innocent children. This revelation forces Liang to confront his own morality and embark on a harrowing journey toward redemption.
Players will forge bonds with each of the girls, learning about their unique backgrounds, traits, and personalities. The game’s branching paths and multiple endings ensure that every decision shapes the direction of the story, offering nine different outcomes and a true conclusion to uncover.
The game’s grim depiction of the Ming Dynasty is brought to life with hand-drawn illustrations that blend traditional Chinese artistry with modern animation. The mature content includes themes of combat, criminal behavior, and unsettling depictions of violence, making it a gripping tale of survival and moral dilemmas.
The Hungry Lamb features performances by renowned voice actors such as Rie Kugimiya, Kazuma Horie, and Risa Shimizu, adding depth to the game’s narrative. “We are very excited to finally bring our story to the Nintendo Switch, after captivating the minds of over one million fans around the world,” said Ji Ling, Producer for Zerocreation Games. “We look forward to continuing our tale in the upcoming sequel coming later this year.”
The game will be available on the Nintendo Switch for $11.99 USD, 11.99 EUR, and 10.79 GBP. It is also available on PC via Steam for $9.99 USD. The game supports Chinese, English, and Japanese text with Chinese and Japanese voice acting, with Ukrainian, Russian, and French localization currently in production.
