Gaijin Entertainment is set to release the “Hornet’s Sting” major content update for War Thunder in mid-March, promising a host of new vehicles and significant visual enhancements to three iconic maps. This update will introduce the legendary F/A-18 fighter jet, the Hopkins Mk.I light tank, and the HMS Warspite battleship, among other exciting additions.
The F/A-18 Hornet, a carrier-based fighter jet, has seen action in numerous military conflicts involving the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, including Libya, the Gulf War, and Afghanistan. This versatile aircraft has also been operated by countries like Canada, Finland, Australia, and Kuwait, and has made appearances in popular culture. The update will feature the American F/A-18A and F/A-18C variants, as well as the Finnish F/A-18C, each equipped with unique weapons and combat systems, including the Walleye II ER/DL guided bomb with a thermal imaging homing head.
The Mk VIII Light Tank, known as the Harry Hopkins, was designed in late 1941 to replace the Mk VII Tetrarch. It boasts 38 mm of armor on the turret and hull, with sloping that can deflect weaker shells. Its fast-firing 40 mm cannon can penetrate up to 89 mm of armor, making it a formidable addition to the battlefield.
Three maps—Advance to the Rhine, Sinai, and Jungle—will receive major visual overhauls. Artists have updated models, textures, and added more vegetation and decorative elements to enhance authenticity while preserving the original layout and design. For example, the Sinai map now features a railway and telegraph line between the main combat areas and the water channel, while the Jungle map offers improved terrain traversal options for more balanced gameplay.
