Fans of dungeon defense games have a reason to celebrate as Brueh Games and YarnCat Games unveil an extended demo for their video game adaptation of the acclaimed board game, Keep the Heroes Out! Available now through March 3rd during Steam Next Fest, this demo offers a deeper dive into the game’s tutorial and first four stages.
Keep the Heroes Out! is an asymmetric, cooperative dungeon defense game where players take on the roles of monsters defending their treasures from invading “heroes.” This digital adaptation stays true to the original board game’s mechanics while adding new features and enhancements. Players must work together to survive two rounds through the Guild deck, protecting treasures in each room. If the main treasure is stolen, the game ends in defeat, but if players can hold off the heroes long enough, victory is theirs.
The digital version faithfully recreates the tabletop experience, complete with the same art style and gameplay. Players can enjoy solo play against AI or team up with friends remotely. YarnCat Games has also enhanced the visuals with fluid animations and included a tutorial to help new players get started.
The original board game has been a massive success, selling over 70,000 copies since its launch in 2022 and earning a nomination for the Golden Geek Best Cooperative Game. It’s currently ranked as the 473rd best board game of all time on BoardGameGeek and the 80th best thematic game.
Luís Brueh, the founder of Brueh Games and creator of the board game, expressed his excitement about the digital adaptation. “We’re thrilled that people are so eager to play this digital version of Keep the Heroes Out! We wanted to bring the game to those who want to play with friends remotely or solo against the AI, and YarnCat Games has helped make this vision a reality.”
