Kingdom Hearts

The absolute biggest news of the latest Nintendo Direct showcase has officially dropped, and it is a massive win for Keyblade masters everywhere. Square Enix took the stage to unveil jaw-dropping updates for its beloved crossover franchise, officially locking down a native Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] release date of October 8, 2026.

Even more thrilling for fans looking to the future: a brand-new trailer for the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts IV has debuted, officially confirming that the next mainline entry will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Whether you are looking to relive Sora’s iconic journey natively on modern hardware or counting down the days to the next era of the franchise, Square Enix is firing on all cylinders.

Native Play at Last: Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] Details

For years, Nintendo fans had to rely on a heavily criticized cloud version to experience Sora’s adventures on the go. That era is officially ending. The upcoming Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] brings the entire Dark Seeker Saga to modern hardware completely natively—no cloud streaming required.

Launching on October 8, 2026, the collection will be available as both a streamlined physical and digital all-in-one bundle for the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Microsoft Store. Pre-orders have officially opened across all platforms.

The collection packages an astonishing amount of content, giving you everything you need to experience the story from start to finish:

  • KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX- (Includes Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Birth by Sleep Final Mix, and HD cutscene compilations for 358/2 Days and Re:coded). Note: This specific bundle will also be available natively on the original Nintendo Switch.
  • KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (Includes Dream Drop Distance HD, 0.2 Birth by Sleep, and the χ Back Cover cinematic movie).
  • KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC)

A Free Demo is Live Today!

Can’t wait until October? Switch 2 players can download a free demo for Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind starting today. The demo features two distinct sections: the early stages of Olympus (with save data carrying over to the full game) and a slice of the Toy Story-inspired Toy Box world.

With this shift to native hardware, Square Enix has ceased sales of the original Nintendo Switch Cloud versions. The cloud servers will officially be discontinued on June 9, 2027, though cloud owners will luckily be able to transfer their save data directly to the Switch 2 version.

Pre-Order Bonuses, Discounts, and Early Access

Square Enix is heavily rewarding returning players and early adopters with a suite of platform-exclusive incentives.

If you already own the digital versions of these games on the original Nintendo Switch (Cloud), PlayStation 4, or Xbox One, you are eligible for a massive 50% discount on your digital pre-order or post-launch purchase for next-gen consoles.

Platform-Exclusive Keyblades

Pre-ordering or buying the collection (or the standalone Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind) will net you a gorgeous, platform-themed weapon swap:

  • Nintendo Switch 2: Long Night Keyblade
  • PlayStation 5: Midnight Blue Keyblade
  • Xbox Series X|S: Phantom Green Keyblade

Additionally, digital pre-orders on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will grant players 48-hour early access, meaning you can start diving into the heart of the cards on October 6.

Kingdom Hearts IV Showcases Quadratum in New June 2026 Trailer

While the native collection is incredible news for game preservation, the real showstopper was the brand-new trailer for Kingdom Hearts IV.

The breathtaking footage gave fans another look at the mysterious, hyper-realistic metropolis of Quadratum, where series protagonist Sora finds himself trapped. The trailer promises a massive leap forward for the series’ action-RPG combat, teasing unannounced Disney worlds, newly awakened powers, and mysterious figures crossing Sora’s path.

The confirmation of a Switch 2 release alongside PS5, Xbox, and PC ensures that the entire community will be able to experience the upcoming Lost Master Arc together.

Celebrating the 25th Anniversary

Square Enix also used the showcase to look ahead to 2027, which marks the 25th anniversary of the franchise. The studio debuted an elegant 25th-anniversary logo, hinting that the celebrations—and potentially the launch window for Kingdom Hearts IV—will be well worth the wait.

Take a look at the newly released trailers to see how spectacular the native ports look on next-gen hardware, and get your pre-orders locked in today.
