Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) is leaning into Filipino internet culture this June with a new nationwide campaign, MLBB Clash of Eras, that combines nostalgia, community engagement, and back-to-school activities for students across the country.
Dubbed “Clash of Eras: Jejemon vs. Young Stunna,” the initiative draws inspiration from two distinct generations of online culture familiar to many Filipinos. The campaign invites players to choose between the iconic Jejemon movement that defined much of the local internet landscape in the early 2010s and the modern Young Stunna aesthetic associated with today’s social media generation.
The event forms part of MLBB’s latest effort to localize its community activities in the Philippines, one of the game’s largest and most active markets.
A Battle Between Two Generations of Filipino Internet Culture
For longtime internet users, the Jejemon era remains one of the most recognizable periods in Philippine online culture. Characterized by stylized text messages, alternating uppercase and lowercase letters, colorful profiles, and distinctive fashion trends, the movement became a defining symbol of early social media culture in the country.
The Young Stunna generation, meanwhile, reflects today’s digital landscape, shaped by viral content, creator-driven trends, streetwear influences, and rapidly evolving social media platforms.
MLBB is turning that cultural contrast into a community competition, allowing players to vote for the era they believe best represents Filipino internet culture.
The winning side will receive more than just bragging rights. According to MLBB, the victorious generation will inspire a free in-game battle emote that will be distributed to players later this month.
Voting is scheduled to run from June 11 to June 13, with the results to be announced shortly afterward. Players will be able to claim the free emote between June 17 and June 30 by logging into the game and completing five days of logins during the event period.
Content Creators Join the Conversation
To amplify the campaign, MLBB is partnering with a number of Filipino content creators from both gaming and mainstream entertainment.
The collaborations will include transformation videos, comedic sketches, nostalgia-focused content, and discussions exploring how internet culture has evolved over the years. The approach reflects a growing trend among gaming publishers to tap into culturally relevant online conversations rather than focusing solely on in-game promotions.
By centering the campaign around familiar internet identities, MLBB aims to encourage discussion among players from different age groups while highlighting how online culture continues to evolve.
MLBB Heads Back to School
Alongside the online event, MLBB is expanding its presence on university campuses through a series of back-to-school activities planned throughout June.
The publisher said it will work with educational institutions nationwide to organize student-focused initiatives designed around communication, teamwork, and strategic thinking—skills often associated with multiplayer gaming and esports.
The campus activations are intended to help students connect with fellow gamers as they return to in-person academic life while also introducing new opportunities for community engagement outside the game itself.
The move continues MLBB’s longstanding focus on grassroots community-building in the Philippines, where campus organizations and student gaming communities have played a major role in the growth of mobile esports.
Local Culture Remains Central to MLBB’s Philippine Strategy
Speaking about the campaign, Yoga Luo, Head of Marketing for MLBB Philippines at MOONTON Games, said the initiative reflects the company’s continued effort to create experiences tailored specifically for Filipino players.
“As MLBB continues to grow in the Philippines, we remain committed to understanding our local community and delivering experiences that reflect their passions, humor, and identity,” Luo said.
He added that the Clash of Eras campaign demonstrates how global initiatives can be adapted to resonate with local audiences while encouraging participation across different generations of players.
The campaign arrives as MLBB continues to maintain a dominant presence in the Philippine gaming landscape, supported by a large player base, a thriving esports ecosystem, and frequent community-driven events.
